Brian Lilley: How junk science fuels phoney controversy over Harper's gun comments

Brian LilleyArchive

Canada's liberal elite are still losing their minds over Prime Minister Stephen Harper's "vanilla" comments about gun ownership.

The Edmonton Journal ran an over-the-top editorial denouncing Harper in particular and gun ownership in general. It reads almost like satire, but the editors were serious.

I explains what's wrong with the "studies" those gun-hating liberals always cite, and explain what the statistics really reveal about gun ownership and crime.

For instance, some regions in Canada have higher murder rates than their American neighbours. How do anti-gun leftists explain that?

Got the two books. The bias against guns and More Guns, Less Crime.

The “UN-progressives” have done such a good job of baning guns. Harkin back to yesteryear when you were a youg lad like me, when you received your first cowboy cap pistol. Mine was cromed with six shots, based on the “peace maker model” what was yours? Now have this play as a youth caused me to shoot some one, I have reached the age of 67 and so far have not shot anybody How about you? Have you seen any kids playing cowboys and indians, oh ya thats a racist comment, shame on me go to the corner.
The un-progressives have done a great job, it just the bad guys who have guns

There’s a profound statement in the form of a quote I end up uttering when I come to the end of my rope of trying to explain basic rights and basic guns to the progressive anti-gun-nut faction. The gun-grabbers of course ridicule the line, the man who’s responsible for the line and the man speaking the line. This ridicule and ignorance, chauvinistic self righteousness and use of demonizing labels along with a shut-down mind, is part of their robot-programming, but at the same time the anti-gun-coalition fear the sentiment behind the line because a small part of them that wasn’t brain-washed by the indoctrination of the progressive/collectivist/communist ideology knows the resolve of a man who would utter that line in earnest…

Ron Voss, The mantra “progressive” is a euphemism that has been used for over a century to obfuscate the fact that the movement is deeply rooted in Marzism. Of course the majority of people only think of the the root word “progress” and think of it as a benign and good thing. MacDonald’s is being progressive by changing their menu. Boeing is making “progress” on a new version of the 747 . WOW, being progressive and making progress is a great thing, isn’t it? Well the problem is that we as conservatives are horrible at exposing these liberal trick words and phrases. Challenge them. Start calling them socialists. Truth in words can go a long way if you are determined, and determined we must be.

Ron Voss ,thank you for your research. Much appreciated. All of you, this wickedness will succeed if good people remain silent.

It is an election year and we are finding out that any statements will be used to try and gradually paint a negative picture of the opposing party. At least the Conservatives know who will have the greatest bias in their opinions versus actually reporting the news.

This is another example of city views versus rural ones. It gets tiresome listening to the city types who appear on our television screens telling the rural population how we should live; gun ownership is only one topic—our schools should be closed and our children should travel on buses to “proper” schools. A good comment Mr. Lilley.

It is so funny or phony, that is, our totally connected with population , MP’s in Quebec voted unanimously against S.Harper comments on guns : the next day some opinion seekers surveyed 5000 quebecers on Harper’s comments , guess what ?? Yeah! of course you guess right , ! 64% of the people said that they support what our PM in Ottawa said about guns, …. then politicos wonder why we trust them less than a used car salesman .

Brian, you prefaced the Prime Minster’s innocuous, common sense comments on guns with, “The Prime Minister said, that, well firearms are a tool used by certain people”. While you may be exasperated by the “progressive commentators” and their allies in the MSM, such as, the Edmonton Journal, seemingly “losing their minds”, one needs to keep in mind THEY are a “tool”, doing nothing less than their part in spinning out a narrative to advance the ‘progressive’ agenda. Let’s look a little closer at that seemingly innocuous word “progressive”. Brian, at the end of February, you were delighted about your first podcast for Glenn Beck and The Blaze. In March 2014 your buddy Glenn Beck delivered a rousing keynote speech in which he said, “***progressives*** are nothing more than patient communists”.
Communists are quite comfortable in using the euphemistic term “progressive”. For example, the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA) founded in 1919, trumpets at its web site that it “has an unparalleled history in the ***progressive*** movement of the United States”.
On January 31, 2009, Sam Webb, who served as the Chairman of the CPUSA from 2000 to 2014, gave a speech, “A New Era Begins”, celebrating that “a friend of labor and its allies sits in the White House.” He described President Obama’s inauguration as a sign that “an era of ***progressive*** change is within reach, no longer an idle dream.”
In 2001, the Communist Party of Canada adopted its party program, “Canada’s Future is Socialism!” In Chapter 5 (“The Working Class And People’s Struggle”), one finds, for example, the word ***“progressive”*** appears no less than 11 times!
Finally, this piece of common sense, “Call Em Communists”, from Wild Bill for America:
Excerpt: “Oh, most of them don’t call themselves communists, because most Americans know that communism is pure evil. They call themselves ***progressives***, liberals, democrats…We need to call these people what they are. Communists.”
Brian, you got it right at the end of your commentary, “Redmonton Journal that’s what you really should be called”.

I live in a rural area and firearms ownership is a long held tradition around here. For the amount of firearms here the amount of gun violence is fairly low. Every year we get a couple of street lights shot out and from time to time maybe the odd home or vehicle but that is usually done by a few bad apples in the community who can’t handle their liquor. In the past four decades I can only recall two incidents were an actual person was shot and both times it was in a leg so either the perpetrators were poor shots or they were only aiming to maim.

Right on Brian. How can you even begin to try and explain this to the anti gun people, they don’t get it and don’t want to get it.
commented 2015-03-22 14:24:03 -0400
You can kill someone with a ballpoint pen. Gun owners who’ve taken the Gun Safety course are mature, responsible people who store and use their guns safely. People who are anti-gun have no idea how to use guns properly which is why they’re afraid of them. Americans wandering around with loaded guns in their purses are just plain stupid. They’ve never been trained how to use guns safely.

The Redmonton Journal got the heck hammered out of themselves in the comment section of that opinion piece, and rightly so, In over a hundred comments, I was only able to find 1 that vaguely supported them.

The lieberal leftists along with the ndp are totally out to lunch….You do not have to listen long to know and I mean KNOW that these people if elected will drag this country down hill so fast even they will not know what happened……Of coarse their out would be to have the cbc spin doctors blame PM Harper and then all will be well in tinsel town…….Parties without a clue ……Good Grief Charlie Brown !!!…..

The Prime Minister was talking about rural Canada but who cares, the need for a firearm is probably greater in the big cities then small town Canada. I would love to see a televised debate on the firearms issue, lets get this out in the open.

Edmonton Journal hasn’t been worth reading since I was a teenager which was 30+ years ago. Even then it could be argued I was young and impressionable so could find interest where there was none. Liberals will continue to immediately take extreme positions on any ideological opinions. Guns are the end of humanity. Drugs are the best for addicts. Tax breaks for families only help the rich. Liberal nut jobs are taking over as even city officials “float” insane proposals to flood city streets to enable the lefties to skate to work. Any 10 year old can understand how preposterous that is. These clowns can actually propose such things with a straight face.
Don’t forget this is a city of such Apathy they allowed their mayor to give a BILLIONAIRE their money to build an arena. Now that mayor(Mandel) is the Provincial Health Minister. Appointed by the Liberal Premier Prentice before Mandel was even elected. What is the nature of the relationship between Prentice, Mandel, and our Billionaire pharmacy entrepreneur? How many more hand outs can these working class fools afford to hand over their local Billionaire?
Most importantly, how foolish can a population be? Well if it’s a Liberal population…who knows?

Good one, Brian Lilley.

If the left is serious about permanently disarming all of humanity, they best get busy with the genetic research necessary to produce humans without arms. I mean, even the left condemns chopping arms off … don’t they? Seriously. They do, right?

While they are at it, because no arms is not very adaptive in the Darwinian sense, maybe the left can work on producing humans with fins – you know, to help us with that global warming thing.

What about knives, rocks, mustard gas, etc. don’t the left understand about weapons arms?
