In the area that once housed the Calais Jungle, we found at least 100 illegal migrants in a camp in the middle of a business park.
They were mainly Africans, a couple of Afghans and two Iranians.
Some Africans tried to seal our gear and break into our car boot. They quickly turned angry when our goodwill offerings of food, cigarettes and drinks dried up. They even tried separating me from my team, but they were no match for my three man security team of UK Armed Forces veterans.
Meanwhile, the Iranians I spoke to were charming and educated. One had bought a fake passport in Greece for €500 and wondered why he had been rejected at the UK passport check the night before. It was funny and sad to hear his story.
They all had stories to tell, like the Slovakian who had also been prevented from entering the UK. Why? I have an idea of what the truth really is...
