Calgary politicians tell pro-pipeline protesters to “buy Quebec cheese”

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Host | The Gunn Show

On this week's episode of The Gunn Show, William McBeath from Save Calgary joined me to discuss how a pro-pipeline rally in Calgary went sideways for Mayor Nenshi and City Council.

Calgary held yet another massive lunch time pro-pipeline rally this past Monday. Over 2,000 people showed up at Calgary's Municipal Plaza to show their support for Canada's battered, beleaguered oil and gas industry.

The speakers at the rally included Calgary municipal politicians which shouldn’t have been unusual or controversial, except those speakers ended up making themselves both!

Mayor Nenshi tried to speak French to the rally-goers, which earned him loud boos.

Then he lectured the attendees on the merits of fighting climate change.

Councillor Peter Dejong was also booed after telling the crowd to support Quebec cheese and to avoid trade embargoes and boycotts. In response to the criticism from the crowd, he whined, “And you call yourselves Canadian? Wow.”

How could these two be so tone deaf and out of touch with the concerns of the people in their own city that they turned a pro-pipeline rally against themselves?

In less politically correct times, councilor Demong would have left that rally wearing a warm new coat of tar and feathers.

Can’t believe Calgary elected these two bozos. Calgary is not the same city I lived in years ago, that’s for sure.

The biggest of all Quebec cheeses is Kraft Cracker Barrel. Sure it might say Kraft from Don Mills Ontario on the side but there are no cheese factories in Don Mills or the middle of Toronto. Their factories are in the eastern townships of Quebec.

Was it not our foreign minister that was crying like a baby at the EU negotiations who signed over the rights to Europe to flood Canada with imported cheese?

Good show Sheila. Politicians have not been shocked enough by voters not agreeing with them. It is unfortunate that voters generally vote with their feet and run after Balloon and feel-good issues .. Voters are not cynical, nor skeptical enough.

I’ll buy Quebec cheese when they buy Alberta oil. Until then our Manitoba cheeses win awards round the world. Buy Bothwell. We are still being ripped off by artificially inflated prices but a guy’s got to eat.
