Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi showed his true colours in a video in which he not only called the CEO of Uber a 'dick', but suggested that the city had sex offenders and criminals infiltrate the company.
The video, which emerged Friday, was recorded during a Lyft rideshare in Boston with the live-streaming app Periscope.
Nenshi, who was unaware he was being recorded, told the driver, “We’re no fools, so we sent people to sign up to be Uber drivers to see if they could get through the background check.”
“How we found registered sex offenders, I don’t want to know, and people with convictions for violent crimes, I don’t want to know why we know those people. I just don’t want to know, nobody will even tell me and I don’t want to know, but they all made it through Uber’s theoretical background screening,” he continued.
In addition, Nenshi insulted Uber, calling its employees 'the worst people in the world'.
“Uber, there's no polite way of saying this, have a brilliant business model, and are dicks,” he said.
After a short exchange with the Lyft driver, he added, “They are honestly the worst people in the world to deal with. I have never dealt with people like this before.”
Uber spokesman Jean-Christophe de Le Rue was disappointed when he heard of Nenshi's comments.
“It’s disappointing to see Mayor Nenshi stoop to name calling and questionable tactics,” he said. “We hope this can give way to a more constructive conversation that benefits the riders and drivers of Calgary.”
In addition to insulting Uber, Nenshi shared some of his thoughts on Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz, calling him 'scary'.
Nenshi also called Obama a 'remarkable president' who 'never had one scandal'.
