It’s a cold January day at the Alberta legislature but I'm here to cover an anti-Justin Trudeau protest.
Remember the hijab hate crime hoax? A young girl and her mother claimed that an Asian male with a moustache attacked her with a pair of scissors on her way to school, putting a 30 cm long cut in her hijab.
It was an apparent hate crime against a Muslim child and the nation was captivated.
Politicians were tripping over themselves to parrot the universal admonishment of Canadians as racist and intolerant.
The worst of those politicians was Justin Trudeau. He jumped on this story of an Islamophobic Asian Canadian scissor wielding maniac as proof that Canadians are truly as hateful as he thinks we are.
The girl’s story and the hate crime were completely false. But the anger and sense of betrayal remaining in the Asian Canadian community for the slander against them is very real.
Asian Canadians have organized rolling rallies across the country. They're protesting against the free speech crushing anti-blasphemy motion M-103 and the lies repeated by Trudeau about an imaginary man from their community.
I'm here to find out what these folks have to say, that is, if the left wing kook sticking a camera in my face will leave me alone for a minute!
