In the wake of yet another Islamic terror attack in London and the revelation that one of the victims was from BC, the question that comes to my mind and the minds of millions of Canadians is, can this happen here?
The short answer is, yes.
We need only look back to the murder of Nathan Cirillo by an Islamic terrorist and the shoot-out inside parliament, and also to numerous terror plots that have been foiled by the great men and women serving this country in law enforcement and intelligence services.
I thought it was worth reminding Canadians just how lucky we’ve been to avoid a major catastrophe as so many of our close Western allies are currently facing, and discuss some of the major Islamic terror plots that have been foiled in Canada.
Watch as I break down everything from Aaron Driver's homemade bomb, to the VIA rail bomb plot and one of the most sophisticated Islamic terror plots the world has ever seen, the Toronto 18.
The regressive left likes to claim that Canada has only been targeted due to our role in the Afghanistan war, but our very first homegrown Islamic terror plot in 1991 was well before a single Canadian soldier set foot in a Muslim country.
Reminding ourselves about these foiled plots forces Canadians to realize we’re not an exception due to Canadian multiculturalism integrating Islamic immigrants better than other countries. This doesn’t help us avoid the issues of radicalism that Europe, the US and the whole world is seeing right now.
At Rebel, we’ve reported recently on extremist preaching at Mosques in Toronto and Montreal. In 2014, Calgary saw an anti-Israel protest by the Hamas supporting Palestinian community that devolved into a fight where supporters of Israel were attacked.
With all this in mind, we need to stay vigilant and aware.
I’m hopeful we can avoid major incidents, and I believe in our law enforcement and intelligence officials, but if we’ve learned anything from recent attacks, sometimes law enforcement awareness of radicalized individuals isn’t enough.
