Canada’s jet-setting PM Trudeau: One year, ten vacations

Brian LilleyArchive

As the nation kicked off the 150th birthday celebrations that are Canada 2017, the prime minister was nowhere to be found.

He did make an appearance on Rick Mercer’s show for New Year’s Eve. In the middle of a coast to coast showcase of musical acts ringing in the New Year, CBC and Rick mercer paused to show us our PM playing a trivia game.

That’s what everyone wants to see during a New Years party, the prime minister – well maybe CBC fans do.

But while Trudeau made an appearance at the party it was of course pre-recorded and he had high tailed it out of Canada long before.

At first his office wouldn’t say where. They tried to keep it a secret.

Then they relented and let it be known that Trudeau and family, just like last year, were taking a Christmas break in the Caribbean, this time the Bahamas.

I don’t begrudge Trudeau a break. We all need a break but it’s that I begrudge how many breaks and vacations he takes.

Maybe I should be happy, if he is on vacation he isn’t around to try and wreck the place. But Trudeau takes a lot of vacations and they cost you plenty!

Keeping track of all his vacations can be tough but I do my best and here is what I have just for the last year.

Last Christmas and New Years, Trudeau and his family were is in St. Kitts, a tropical paradise.

Last winter Trudeau and family took a ski and snowboard trip to Whistler and another trip to Quebec City for carnival.

There was his Easter vacation on Fogo Island, a remote and elite spot in Newfoundland where hotel rooms start at $1,575 a night.

There was his famous shirtless photobombing while taking a surfing trip to Tofino, British Columbia.

And now, New Years in the Bahamas.

On top of that we can add in an extra day in Japan for the Trudeau’s to celebrate their wedding anniversary which actually happened when they were back in Canada.

And we can add an extra day in New York City to see the musical Hamilton.

Before news of the Bahamas trip broke CBC reported that Trudeau reimbursed taxpayers for nine private trips, add in Bahamas and he is at ten vacations.

Did you get ten vacations or private trips last year?

In the past I’ve defended taxpayers paying extra for the prime minister to go on vacation. The PM has security needs, his security level and requirements are set by the RCMP. I get all of the reasons.

And I’ve defended this set up for Stephen Harper and yes, I’ve even done the same for Justin Trudeau – but no more.

While I understand that it costs more for the PM to travel, I don’t understand why he needs so many vacations.

I think Trudeau has taken more vacations on our dime than Stephen Harper did in his entire time in office.

Trudeau, like past prime ministers does reimburse taxpayers for the equivalent to the economy fare price for private use of the jet that takes him and his family to these various locales. But that is hardly equivalent to the actual cost.

And no, I’m not talking about the cost of flying.

On just the St. Kitts trip last year the cost to have his RCMP detail put up at the same ritzy location as Trudeau was $64,000 – that is just the accommodation and office space the RCMP needed to do their jobs. The cost to put up the air crew while they were on standby for nine days - $48,000 or about what the average middle class Canadian earns while working full time all year.

Trudeau loves to claim he's all about the middle class but he doesn’t act like it.

What is middle class about ten vacations in a year?

What is middle class about forcing tax payers to pick up the tab for your nannies, your security detail and keeping an air crew on stand by for more than a week?

You repeat that every six weeks or so over ten vacations and things add up quickly.

And did you know that Trudeau has access to a palatial cottage on a secluded lake – the PM’s official summer home at Harrington Lake, open year round in the picturesque Gatineau Hills?

This is just the latest example of Trudeau hosing the taxpayers and showing that the Liberal mantra of being entitled to your entitlements still holds true.

John F. Kennedy said to the American people “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

Trudeau and his Liberals have reversed that phrase while planting their hand firmly in your pocket, all the better to pick it. Shame on them.

Sherri April, this plane crash you are praying for does that include his wife and children? And who is this person you are praying to?

I was hoping that “Justin’s Diary” would make a come back, to summarize the first year of destruction, under this traitor to Canada. Junior should be sitting in jail taking selfies of himself, rather than being allowed to decimate Canada, by being on a permanent vacation using taxpayer dollars. You’d think he was Robin Hood by the way he’s been spending our money in other countries, while killing off Canada’s economy.

Always love the new accounts that the trolls use to appear as someone else, typical Gordo tactic that he thinks fools people just because he is so simple that it would fool him.

I will continue to pray for a plane crash

Sandy Leclair Red
How pathetic is your portrayal as someone who is actually supposed to be a young female and defending her Pimp Minister.
You are not fooling anyone by trying to sound like a young woman, Jimmy Reece or whoever you are this time.

SANDY LECLAIR REID..
I don’t believe you.!
And even if that was true it doesn’t make him a good prime minister, in fact he really sucks and anybody that can’t see that is an elitist and a member of a very small minority of some kind of group, probably a wanna be powerbroker who serves a master beyond himself.

No I didn’t get a holiday this year since I started a new job in January. Now I can’t afford one since it’s going to pay the carbon tax

Most of this is just a bunch of Bullshit! But I won’t get into that. My beef is with the FACT that the famous shirtless photobombing was NOT in Tofino, BC while on a surfing trip! It was in fact in Quebec as he and his wife emerged from a cave they were exploring! I know this because the man whose son was in the picture with the “shirtless” PM is a long time friend of mine. And for the record, Justin was not photobombing anything! The kid was so excited to see the PM of our Country emerging from a cave, like any ordinary person, that he Asked for the picture! These are FACTS! Feel free to message me if you would like the proof! I think everyone who likes bashing our Leader, should back off, get a life, and let the man do his job already. Who gives a rats ass if he takes 20 vacations? Certainly Not Me! I voted Red and Proud of it!

Well, add up the actual number of days that these vacations took. A day here and a day there doesn’t seem to add up to more than 2 weeks. I am flying to Kuala Lumpur in two weeks for a three month vacation, including Thailand and one week in Taiwan before I come home and pull my vintage cars out of heated winter storage to take them for a cruise. If the PM gets 2 weeks in total, it is no more than any one of you slaves gets per year. Sure, he is a nation-destroyer, but his trips are quite possibly the least of his so-called misdeeds. Look to his foreign aid spending, there is the real damage to Canada. Everybody needs downtime, even a destroyer needs time for his brood.

Good to see somebody tracking all of the expenses. I would love to see the rebel put up a page that has all the stats of all the expenses and vacation days taken by the liberals.

The way we are treated in the west has been by far the greatest case for separation we’ve ever had.!!!
commented 2017-01-04 02:11:23 -0500
And with carbon taxes and green idiocy and less jobs , the middle class will be taking less and less vacations.

Nov 2019 he gets a chance to go on a permanent vacation.

Of course Trudeau doesn’t like Canada, well except for Quebec. He still hasn’t gotten all of his inheritance yet. Daddy set it up in a trust fund because he said he didn’t trust him. What does that tell you?

Trudeau has been on one big vacation since elected. How many trips abroad has he taken attending summits & conferences, not to mention all the other travels in Canada & the US. It’s a damn shame, yet he s still very popular according to the polls (they must be only polling liberals). You see, Trudeau likes to emulate everything Obama does & Obama took dozens of vacations while in office. Trudeau is only in the house long enough to bring in more refugees or send money to foreigners. I started to watch Laflamme’s interview with Sophie on the CTV app, but had to stop a couple minutes into it as Laflamme was drooling all over herself. The lamestream media are only interested in reporting anything they can find on Trump.

Fuck em, I’ll never vote federally again. Separation only

Junior has been on a permanent vacation since birth – has never really worked and never once had to budget or clip coupons, or buy a lotto ticket because he needed hope, or worry about where the next mortgage payment would come from – pretty much a lifetime coasting on trust fund income.

We are being to hard on Mr. Photo Op!

He needs a vacation to recover from all the stressful vacations he has taken!
commented 2017-01-03 21:16:06 -0500
@rick PLESNIK,
couldn’t agree more, we paid for those vacations, no one else did.

“… That 39% of Canadians voted for him and his Party is a very sad statement on this nation, in my opinion.

What is beyond pathetic is that a number of that 39% would have screamed like a banshee if Harper had done even one of the things that Junior has done so far. Remember their outrage over Bev’s glass of orange juice? Shite that was small potatoes in comparison to the latté swilling crowd that is now in charge. Where is the Lib voters’ outrage now? Where is their outrage over the astronomical waste? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHERE IS THEIR OUTRAGE OVER THE TRANSFER CUTS TO THE PROVINCES? Crickets.

Hypocrite thy name is Liberal.

I know French Canadians who believe Trudope is worth every dollar we can bestow on him, including the two Nannies! The West really needs to separate. Perhaps the National Carbon Tax will provide the fodder to begin the process.

Trudeau is on one constant holiday. He dose not have the slightest idea of what he is doing, it is all a big game to him.

I am surprised that he did not visit Cuba, the land of his Father, who has just died.

Far fetched? Look at how many times his Mother visited Cuba, then look at pictures of Castro, when he was young. Now look at Trusted, he sure as hell dozens look like Mick Jagger.

Justin had lots of nice things to say about Castro, after he kicked the bucket.

Oh, Comrade Trudeau!

1. Rick Mercer is passé. His road shows are so boring; he stands on the stage and shows excerpts from his shows and you pay $65.00 to see re-runs.
2. Trudeau CAN do damage while away. Look at the damage Obama did (Israel) while he’s in Hawaii for his last Christmas, not the White House but the Hawaiian mansion he used.
3. Trudeau is like Hilary Clinton; Canada owes him…everything.
4. Donald Trump isn’t planning on taking holidays (60 Minutes); that’s because he’s used to working for a living and having to make his own money.
I haven’t had a get-away, holiday or a change of scene in 16 years. Instead I’m paying for this dope and his entitled brood to go play. And you wonder why people want the option for assisted suicide.

He prances about taking quality selfies all around the world, bothers to actually show up for work (in Question Period) what is it? 60, 70 percent of the time? And then the vacations on top of vacations. It’s almost as if he’s deliberately mocking Canadians, and laughing at us. But I actually don’t think that this is the case: I think he just completely, utterly doesn’t give a damn what voters think (unless it’s an election year, of course). I get the distinct impression that he doesn’t even like Canada and Canadians (let alone care what his fellow citizens think of anything). That 39% of Canadians voted for him and his Party is a very sad statement on this nation, in my opinion.

our pm mr crayon eater has had more vacations and time off since he got elected than my wife and i have had since we met(8 years ago).if he knew anything about the middle class he’d know about working and taking vacations once a year…o nice to see he’s got all that time off at our expense…i know we won’t be able to afford a vacation anytime soon…
commented 2017-01-03 18:37:27 -0500
He’s a Professional Vacationer…having previously boasted about having visited over 90 different Countries…and, being a Trust Fund kid, he’s never had to worry about money, hence never having had a career, only temporary jobs…it also explains why he has the WORST attendance record in Parliament…he DOESN’T like to work…and HATES being held to account(it reduces him to a Babbling Fool)…so what does he like to do…he likes to have Fun, like the Juvenile Frat Boy that he is and let Gerald Butts and his 30 something female Ministers mind the shop!!!
