The Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Alberta showcases leading industry technology developed both in Canada and abroad.
It happens annually, however this year it is occurring in the shadow of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's impending legislation, Bill C-69, which is aimed at overhauling how pipelines and similar projects are assessed for their impact on the environment.
Given the existential threat that this legislation poses to Canada's energy industry, what has been dubbed “Canada's largest ever pro-oil and gas rally” happened this Tuesday right outside of the show. Speakers from Alberta and beyond including Saskatchewn Premier Scott Moe talked about getting Canada's energy industry back on track.
You can see in the video how many people attended this popular rally! Surprisingly, (or perhaps not so much) organizers reported that the there were no counter demonstrators on scene.
