There are 383 Canadian delegates at the Paris Climate Conference (COP21). That’s more than Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Combined.
Let’s start with the most important people on the trip:
The official photographers, of course.
And the "communications directors" and "communications counsellors" -- for the Liberals and the opposition, too.
It's weird enough that Alberta's Rachel Notley's there; after all, provincial premiers can't sign international treaties.
But what about the mayors of Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto -- and Huron-Kinloss, population 7,000?
I run the numbers to try to get an idea how much money all this is costing you and me.
Business class tickets start at $9000 each. The Nunavut delegation is probably spending close to a hundred grand in airfare alone.
Then there are the hotels, food, limos...
But is there something worse than politicians burning up your money to go to Paris? Maybe.
Gregor Robertson, the mayor of Vancouver is going. But he says don’t worry, taxpayers aren’t paying the bill. The C40 Climate Leadership Group is.
Who? Wait until you find out...
