Canadians don't need a Senate report on CBC: If they valued it, they'd be watching it

Brian LilleyArchive

A Senate report looks at what to do with the state broadcaster.

While there are some good recommendations in the report surrounding transparency and funding, the real answer is to sell CBC.

Jimmy…the CBC commissioned polls had Michael Ignatief crowned king…and we saw what happened. What pollsters seem to overlook is that the people who hang up and/or say…“fuck off” and hang up just don’t want to cast their pearls before swine.

In the case of the support for Ignatief those who refused response were going to vote tory…but that was none of the pollsters fucking business.

ALL of these polling companies harvest data that is above and beyond what their clients commission them to do because they are in the business of harvesting data ….and those who have caught on to that just refuse to respond to the poll.

Certain demographics get discounted from the polls anyway and the owners of the poling companies make disparaging remarks about them on the CBC

“you have all of the qualifications… lick slurp and drool. "

That and a filthy mouth, low IQ, attitude of an asshole, unbelievable unfounded arrogant belief he is “all that and more”, and the morals of a slug. A perfect model the the modern “progressive”.

Yup, perfect CBC material.

We have no choice with all of our taxes – the CBC is the least of Canada’s problems. Of course if the CBC was hard core conservative, you would have no problem with the CBC then.

The majority of Canadians support the CBC’s existence. You are not among that majority, so tough shit for you. Majority wins. And no one said that the CBC has to be all things to all people. You can’t please everyone.

Jimmy – here is the difference between the CBC and therebel.media:
Taxpayer subsidy per Canadian to the CBC: $128.00/ year
Taxpayer subsidy per Canadian for therebel.media: $0.00
So what you call"whining and b***ing" – is actually a taxpayer with a voice that has no choice but to fund that corrupt organization.

Thank goodness the Senate is mindful of the need for the judicious application of taxpayer funding.

Does anyone else see the irony in the Senate recommending what another government funded agency should do with taxpayer money?

Usually when I see a senator on TV, they are saying or doing something that makes me angry. Brian Lilley says we should sell the CBC. Why not abolish the Senate instead? We would save even more money and I could still watch Schitt’s Creek.

You whine like a little bitch about the CBC and it’s liberal agenda – meanwhile it’s not really a big deal to you that LIBERALS have made far bigger cuts to the CBC compared to CONSERVATIVES. Nice logic there. In all actuality, the LIBERALS did more of what you want when it comes to the CBC. You should be thanking them.

For the last fucking time.

The Conservative government’s long-standing promise to keep the CBC’s federal funding stable appears to be in tune with public opinion.

A Harris-Decima survey conducted for The Canadian Press suggests 46 per cent of Canadians would like the CBC’s funding to stay at the current level and 23 per cent would like it to be increased.

On the flip side, 22 per cent say funding should be cut, while 12 per cent say it should be eliminated altogether.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government has said for years that it would not cut the CBC’s budget, while noting recently that the CBC would not be immune from government-wide belt-tightening.

The latest Canadian Press/Harris Decima survey asked about federal funding of the CBC.

• Nationally, 46% of respondents feel funding for the CBC should stay at the current level. Those remaining are divided on whether funding for the CBC should be increased or decreased. Just over one in five (22%) feel funding should be cut, including 12% who feel it should be eliminated altogether. The remaining 23% feel funding for the CBC should be increased.

• Those who want funding to the CBC decreased, or eliminated entirely, are more likely to be Conservative supporters, men, those over the age of 50, and living in Alberta.

• Atlantic Canadians, New Democrats, and those with household incomes exceeding $100k/year are more likely to want funding of the CBC to be increased. Each week, Harris/Decima interviews just over 1000 Canadians through teleVox, the company’s national telephone omnibus survey. The most recent data were gathered between October 27 and October 31, 2011. A sample of the same size has a margin of error of 3.1%, 19 times out of 20.

Question wording:

When it comes to federal funding of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which of the following is closest to your view? a. Federal funding of the CBC should be increased b. Federal funding of the CBC should stay at the current level c. Federal funding of the CBC should decrease d. Federal funding of the CBC should be eliminated

Unless it is elected, equal, effective and accountable, we may as well trash it as a redundant expense – but only if we remove non confidence and party whips in Parliament and replace them with constituent recall mechanisms.

CBC carries water for the liberals – and the fed liberals are going to take a beating of their life in October.

It’s amazing how long it takes to unwind / sell this CBC POS.

If online viewers continue to grow, the CBC will be worth $1 in about 10 years – sell it soon Mr. Harper, for the sake of the taxpayers.

CBC = Socialist Television, They use the Canadian citizens’ money to fund their buildings where thew Broadcast network is and rent extra space to other non CBC clients – then use Canadian Taxpayer money to Broadcast programs that have considerably lower ratings that CTV, Rogers, some Private French Broadcasters!
The idea is to make Broadxasts that are of interest to Canadian viewers – but nobody’s watching? They nees to sell their huge metropolis buildings and concenbtrate on creating Broadcasts that the Canadian public is interested to watch – Nobody’s watching – but the CBC staff Public employees are still being paid! Socialist Broadcasting! If no one is watching – your Broadcasting is failing!

What do Harper’s appointments and the cuts made have to do with the majority of Canadians supporting the CBC?

I am well aware the Harper has made far less cuts to the CBC than did Liberals, yet the CBC loathes, not just hates, but loathes the Conservatives and would rather have the Liberals in power even though they cute more. The CBC are idiot hypocrites. But still, what does that have to do with how many Canadians support or do not support the CBC?

“Peter, I have proven it – many times now with a poll that included conservatives. You just choose to ignore it.”

You have proven nothing, you only repeat in a different way the same thing. Post a link to some factual evidence, not some “logical” argument or a repeat of the same tired phrase (rephrased slightly differently each time) “The majority of Canadians support the CBC.”

Fact, Jimmy, facts. You*do* know what the word means, don’t you Jimmy?

Let’s start with the 11 directors that Harper appointed to run the CBC. Not just their salaries, their benefits and severance packages.

What conservatives here seem to forget is the Liberals made twice as many cuts to the CBC compared to Harper.

“Oh Brian, you know as well as I do. This will never pass. The left is so used to pissing away our money. That even if they wanted to sell the CBC they couldn’t because they have been trained to keep the money pit open.”

The left can be trained? Huh! Ya learn something every day! :)

Jimmy claims, “majority of Canadians support the CBC

Can you prove that?
commented 2015-07-20 23:10:09 -0400
If the three main government parties could agree on something (which I doubt), they could simply add a referendum onto the next federal election. Simply-Yes or No to further subsidies of any kind to the CBC. No partisan politics required let the people decide.
commented 2015-07-20 22:23:42 -0400
Again, the majority of Canadians support the CBC and Stephen Harper is the one signing the checks so to speak for the CBC. If you are going to get rid of the CBC – shouldn’t Harper be doing that while he is in power?
