We're about to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by the end of this year and now Justin Trudeau’s idea is finally being vetted.
The only thing media in this country did during the election was find people who said it could be done, albeit without discussing vetting the refugees. That minor detail was left out . . . until now when it's becoming clear that Canadians preferred Stephen Harper's cautious approach.
An Angus Reid poll on the incoming government found Canadians like the idea of Trudeau taking power but they don't agree with some of his key policies, like rolling back the tax free savings limit, legalizing pot and the majority of Canadians don’t like the idea of bringing in 25,000 refugees by Christmas. We could have told you that since we commissioned a poll during the election which found 51 percent of Canadians opposed Trudeau’s Syrian refugee plan and only 39 percent supported it
It didn't matter then and it doesn’t matter to Trudeau now what people or logistics experts in refugee settlement think. This is going ahead. But what happened to Trudeau’s answer to everything that, unlike Harper, he'd listen to the experts?
What about experts like lawyer Richard Kurland, one of the most knowledgeable voices on the immigration and refugee file who told the Globe that “Twenty-five thousand refugees by Jan. 1 is possible if incomplete security checks for 25,000 people from the Middle East looks like an acceptable risk,”
Is it an acceptable risk? It isn’t to me. Have you seen Ezra Levant’s report on the poll done on Syrians? This is a poll on the views of Syrians on a whole host of topics from their support for Sharia to their support for ISIS. It found 31 percent of Syrians support ISIS and their brutal regime. Will those people be screened out?
If you haven't watched Ezra’s report then you need to see it.
Because you're right to have second thoughts about this and Trudeau's other plans but it may be too late.
Next time, maybe there should be more vetting done during an election campaign (as we at the Rebel tried to do) rather than waiting until the bad ideas are being implemented.
