Looks like China has been violating the Montreal Protocol for years.
The global initiative to cut down on substances that deplete the ozone layer — things called CFCs or chlorofluorocarbons was signed by 197 countries, including the United States, China and Canada.
But despite that accord, global emissions of one of these forms of CFCs has been rising since 2013. After analyzing wind and weather patterns, scientists were able to determine the gases were originating from mainland China.
So far, Canada’s high profile climate warrior, Environment Minister Catherine McKenna, has nothing to say about this covert pollution violation by the Chinese.
That might be because McKenna is a bit of a Sinophile, just like her boss Justin Trudeau who once praised the Chinese “basic dictatorship.” McKenna has also praised the Chinese in the past for their commitment to fighting climate change and for signing onto the Paris Accord, while a study from the US-based Effects Institute shows that 1.6 million Chinese meet an early death each year because of real pollution, like smog and smoke.
McKenna also co-chairs the China Council on climate change, a Communist Party organized panel to help the oppressive dictatorship meet its “five-year plans” and her association with the China Council costs the Canadian taxpayer a million and a half dollars, in payments to China.
It would be principled for McKenna to resign from the China Council in protest of the country’s violation of the Montreal Protocol. But I won’t hold my breath.
This is the same bright bulb that congratulated Syria for joining the Paris Accord
