CBC reporter Neil Macdonald gratuitously attacks Israel (yet again)

Mike FegelmanGuest Post

(This column originally appeared at HonestReporting.ca and is reprinted with permission.)

True to form, CBC Senior Correspondent Neil Macdonald continued his modus operandi of twisting unrelated domestic and world affairs stories into criticisms of Israel.

In a February 25 CBC.ca “analysis” report about the governing Liberals being “just as capable as predecessors of making promises it knows it can’t keep”, Macdonald somehow managed to drag Israel into the story by stating (emphasis added):

“That same foreign minister, Stéphane Dion, stood in the Commons last week and savagely denounced the Conservatives for tabling a motion condemning Canadians who support the economic boycott of Israel begun by the Palestinians a decade ago.

It was disrespectful to Canadians who support the boycott in good faith, and divisive, and just more wedge-issue Tory politics, and governments should not stifle debate in a democracy.

Then the Liberals voted to support the motion, all the time assuring Canadians how upset they were to be forced into doing so.

I watched the debate. “Antisemitism,” which absolutely exists, was mentioned at least a hundred times. “Illegal settlements,” which also absolutely exist, were not mentioned at all from what I heard, and I listened to almost all of it.”

Macdonald’s apparent obsession with Israel’s alleged misdeeds has seen him continually and gratuitously attack Israel, this time via Israel’s supposed “illegal settlements." What the settlements have to do with the way the Liberal Party governs Canada is beyond comprehension.

HonestReporting Canada has exposed many of Macdonald’s journalistic transgressions, and his most recent one saw the previous Harper government criticize Macdonald’s reporting as being a “bizarre conspiracy theory” when he claimed that Canada was “threatening hate charges against those boycotting Israel”. Ten other of Macdonald’s journalistic transgressions can be found here.

We’ve said in the past that CBC journalists are tasked to be politically neutral and must embargo their personal views in their professional work. Macdonald’s apparent obsession with Israel seems to be the exception to the rule, allowing him to use CBC resources and platforms to attack Israel, time and again.

Enough is enough. It’s time for the CBC to acknowledge that a problem exists with Macdonald’s reporting.

during the first debate.. rosie bartons critique included cbc looping on a screen behind her a shot of PM harper at a factory talking to several men wearing yarmulkes.. a few nights later mansbridge cited a poll which was 4 years old which showed 48% of canadians supported palestine as a relevant source . and then just before the election “the national” gave a 5 minute piece to an anti semite telling us to vote for anyone but the israel loving conservatives.. .of course self loathing jew and supposed highest model of ethics, cbc ombudsman ester enkin’s answer was that the loop was chosen at random..my query about all of this was directed to jennifer harwood whose husband is mansbridges producer…anti semites all..

This antisemitism is rampant through out not only the CBC but is being fostered at our universities as well. With their Israeli apartheid rallies and condemnation of any groups that support the Jewish state. This type of racism and division among Canadians is something that the liberals pay lip service to, but now support hatred by not supporting the only democracy in the middle east, where women, homosexuals, and others have any rights at all. While free speech must be defended, it is important for the PM to reiterate Canadas support of Israel and condemn such rants disguised as legitimate journalism.

CBC’s government comedians are not funny and CBC government correspondents are not newsworthy. Fuck the CBC and all who feed off it.

I guess Macdonald didn’t read Lilly’s book" CBC Exposed." In the book Brian brings Macdonald’s views under the light. I wonder why Jews don’t sue the CBC, as this has been going on for a decade ?

The terms ‘anti-Israel’, ‘anti-semitic’, ‘anti-Muslim’, get a bit mixed up around here. I guess they are all middle-Easterners who look funny and have their places of worship spray-painted by non-semitic people.

Macdonald and his kind should move o the middle east and report back. I think most people would want Israel as a neighbour rather than a Muslim country.

The CBC appears to be full of anti-Israel bigots: why should anyone be surprised at this? The real travesty is that Canadian taxpayers pay for this vile propaganda. The CBC even bites the Liberal hand that feeds them, maybe this is a good thing and will end up in their demise. Time will tell.

His title should be changed to CBC Senior Propagandist. That would be a much truer title than that faux label from the state broadcaster.

I think all reporters need to be audited to see who is paying them to write lies. I’m betting it’s the UN.

CBC Senior Correspondent Neil Macdonald is a bloated wind-bag full of Lieberal bullshit! He is biased and conceited in is self evaluation of his services. He simply is a MSM propagandist. I don’t even think he takes himself serious.
Yet another reason to abolish the CBC – not one of those big mouthed wind-bags would step up to invest in their own little tax funded tent of hot air.

One day this anti-Semite will be held to account for his lies!
