CBC’s “dress code” report gets it wrong: “Waitressing isn’t slavery” -- and I should know

Lauren SouthernArchive

What is the CBC wasting your money on now? Undercover "exposes" about... "gendered restaurant uniforms"!

A female CBC reporter applied for server jobs undercover and was shocked to learn that these workplaces had official dress codes.

“We like people to look classy,” said one boss. Another restaurant asks servers to “wear pointy shoes.”

Is this really the biggest problem facing our nation today?

I though feminists wanted us to proudly display our bodies. Now they want us to cover them up in shame. Which is it?

Working in a restaurant is hardly "slavery." For one thing, no one is forcing you to work there. Besides, wait staff in some venues can earn hundreds of dollars -- even a thousand dollars -- a day, in tips.

I know: I’ve worked at similar places to those mentioned in the CBC “expose.” My fellow employees actually got in trouble for wearing too little clothing, not too much.

It’s difficult to imagine how the CBC gets away with reporting on virtually everything from the point of view of “their” agenda. Yes they succeed in getting Canadians all riled up over issues that they accept as being Gospel and don’t have time to investigate further for themselves. Our Canadian Propogandist Network is slowly becoming our futures greatest threat.

If waitressing is slavery, is waitering also slavery?

Anyway, if it is … Yikes! It’s just like the prison labour sweatshops in China!!!

Boycott all restaurants. Let’s put these poor ladies out of work!! They’ll thank us for it some day!

Oh please. The feminist profs have been teaching revisionist history for decades now.

God I hate feminist pedagogy. Nothing but the prof getting all the students riled up as a part of the indoctrination process.

Lauren…I know you read these posts…..did anybody in your whymen’s studies department tell you that ALL matriarchies that have ever been catalogued and studied by anthropologists were societies of head hunters and cannibals?…..Nah I don’t suppose…….incest and pederastry were also commonplace in these societies.

Jay Kelly is a troll. I tried to advise this before.
It is possible that he has a mental problem or that he is a fucking idiot.

That’s it…..I’m done. From now on I’m only eating at the Burka Bistro.

Forcing waitresses to wear a specific kind of footwear is stupid. It does not affect the customer experience, and can be uncomfortable for the waitress. There are also some other stupid rules like a minimum jewelry count that are idiotic too, but that does not seem to be harmful.

The important thing is that the food is good, promptly served, and that the order was put in correctly. Everything else is secondary.

Nobody is forcing anybody to work at these restaurants. If you don’t want to work at Hooters, then go and work somewhere else.

There is also forms of sexism against men that are never addressed. Take Red Lobster for example. One time I went there, and my waitress was a boney little woman. But when the food came out to a large table, it was a much stronger male staff that would carry all that food out. Nobody seems to be talking about the double standard here. I will be surprised if that male server got paid more for doing more.

The MSM were bought and paid for by the UN, and now the big pay back is that they will print whatever Islam wants them to print. That’s what happens when you bastardize the truth for financial and political gain.

The CBC thinks that it is part of their mandated role to promote a feminist agenda. Feminism is a career investment in a chronic state of dissatisfaction….it really doesn’t matter what you do or refrain from doing…feminists will find something catty to say about it.

It is part of the feminist perspective that making and/or serving food is sexist servatude and being paid for it is oral prostitution….all forms of gratifying men are treason to the cause.

If there were a franchise of restaurants that served up feminists and their male white knight supporters like Mr Zoolander roasted Polynesian matriarchy style…I would be a patron of that restaurant chain….

Jay Kelly….and Mr Zoolander….and all of the feminist witches at the CBC…….I now perform the defiance of sticking my tongue out at you Maori matriarchy warrior style and licking upwards….dinner is served….bon appitite………:-)-

“We like people to look classy” … like Jian Ghomeshi . yup… that’s some “classy” people you got workin’ there. and the CBC ‘looks’ like a news agency…but it isn’t. it is a left-wing propaganda machine.

It is not much of a stretch to imagine Lauren Southern working in a place where scantily-clad women is the norm.
You are a sexist pig and should go back to grade school. Oh, you can’t because you are still there. The people who work in the service industry are not rewarded for how they look, but for their demeanor(you can google that word). Attentive staff are rewarded, as is good food and the ambiance of a restaurant. You seem to imply Lauren should work in a strip club. If that is your inference you should be ashamed of yourself.

Lauren – I am very glad that you don’t wear a hijab! You are really nice to look at! .. and to listen to.

Lauren – I think you would have been a great waitress! Keep up the good work!

I see quite a similarity between the many people at the CBC to those Trump protesters! Has anyone ever attempted to leave a comment on a CBC article? All the ones I’ve left are “moderated” to the point that the few innocuous ones allowed – didn’t even fit into the context of the conversation.
It is time to abolish the Canadian Brainwashing Corp.!! … and the Canadian Lieberal party.
…Jay Kelly – we all know you like your meals served by a slobish, smelly, uncombed waitress wearing pajama pants, sneakers and a filthy sweater with a large gob of wet Kleenex in her hand that carries your plate. You know – it does come to mind reading some of your posts – that you are one of those Internet bullies – that just like to be contrary to anything being discussed. Are you a CBC voice?

Peter Netterville — I do not understand why progressives like you find it sexist that a woman worked in a place where outfits were skimpy. Lauren was not complaining about it. Sometimes people want to work in a place like that.

Jay Kelly said, “It is not much of a stretch to imagine Lauren Southern working in a place where scantily-clad women is the norm.”

Why are those on the left, the socialists, always so full of insults and hate?

Was that sexist insult really necessary, Jay?

I thought the leftie socialists were against such denigrating remarks and that only the right wing conservative folks were sexist? That is the narrative of the left. I guess you are just a hypocrite and an asshole, Jay.

JAY KELLY YOU are an idiot and very sick. Go take your medications now – go on good boy or girl or whatever you are.

Tips are paid for both the server as a reward to good service and the kitchen staff for a meal well made. That being said, appearances are part of the experience. If you have good food, service and a good time you pay a certain amount. If the decor of the place makes you feel like you are in a special place, you pay more. If the servers are attractive to you you pay even more. Sorry, but that is how life is. People pay more for a good experience.

The true slaves today are unfortunately working for the CBC, well OK, and anybody else paying useless taxes to the Government, or paying interest to banks. Oops, I guess we are all slaves – what a depressing thought.

Irrespective of the blatant political bias of the CBC, one has to consider it the most boring and least innovative networks on the planet. I recognize that Don Cherry is popular, but for gosh sakes almost thirty years of Cherry’s bombastic statements and McLeans goofy looks? And it seems every time I turn on CBC for any sports, McLean is on the panel or blabbing his face off. Mansbridge? Another boring and unimaginative CBC hack. And don’t get me going on Strambuopolis or whatever the heck his name is. If I spelt it wrong , sorry, ain’t worth my time to google to get the spelling correct.
Canada needs an absolute alternative to this miserable relic they call the CBC. In my alternative universe , I pull up to a traffic light and McLean and Mansbridge are standing there , hands out begging for food money. Sorry boys, I donated to THEREBEL
