Christians “wage war” against Sweet Jesus ice cream shop … with petition, not bombs

David MenziesMission Specialist

The Sweet Jesus ice cream company is receiving worldwide attention these days — not because of what’s on the menu, but rather, because of its name.

As you might imagine, some Christians don’t like the Lord’s name taken in vain or used as a marketing gimmick to sell ice cream.

More than 11,000 signatures have been collected on a petition calling for the owners to:

“Issue a public apology for misusing the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ [and] change the name and branding of your franchise.”

But like that tree planted by the river, the owners of Sweet Jesus shall not be moved.

I’m not keen on some sort of M-103-like law preventing retailers and marketers from using religious icons or terminology in their names and would rather let the free market decide.

Even so, it would be interesting to conduct a social experiment to see what the reaction would be if one were to open a store called Sweet Prophet Mohammed Ice Cream.

Andrew Stephenson yes you are deflecting. The left kisses their asses , they are not irrelevant. Now go be a good sheep for them.

John Rambo is nothing but a troll. I don’t usually converse with trolls. I find it a waste of time.

Muslims are irrelevant. Stop deflecting.

Andrew Stephenson make a Piss Muhammed to see who the whackos are.

WOOOSH!! That is the sound of the point of the story going over Andrew and John’s bigoted heads.

John Rambo just like progressive men drool over the HOT conservative women.
commented 2018-04-10 01:34:12 -0400
John Rambo many women think he looks like a dork. Taste is subjective. I find overly skinny women like supermodels to be gross. I prefer curves.

John, I am a woman and I don’t think Trudeau is anything to write home about. I actually wish he had become a male model and taken Sophie with him. That way, he could have stayed out of politics and done us all a big favour. Don’t you worry about Ivanka. She only has eyes for Kushner.

They open a store near me they are gonna have a very close working relationship with their local glazier and letters man….

John, she can’t scowl at a foreign dignitary. Her husband is intelligent and handsome enough that she wouldn’t be interested in a kook like Trudeau.

Andy, I have never seen Justin as some kind of dreamboat precisely because of that nose of his. I can’t see where he’s so good looking.

It is maddening that Christians can get upset over the offensive name of an ice cream company, but, they’re more than happy to accept Muslims at interfaith meetings when these are the very people who seek their demise whether it be by beheading, vehicular homicide, bombings, etc.

So, if “nothing is off limits”, I wish some pickle manufacturer would follow up on my suggestion posted several years ago on The Rebel, and start marketing pickles named “Justin’s Nose” Brand…. Just sayin’…

Andrew said in part, “Have you actually read the triggered ramblings of the group behind the petition? It is almost funny, until you realize just how many guns those whackos own.”

Now Andrew, if they are “whackos”, don’t you think we would see a Charlie Hebdo type attack?
Oh, that’s right, we don’t see mass shootings in the name of Jesus. That’s reserved for Allah.

Listening to the report will might help to curb your nonsense posts Andrew.
Geez, maybe you should write to the New York Post and let them know their hyperbolic headlines are not appreciated.

“By the way, “wage war” is an interesting turn of phrase.
Perpetuating the victim mentality? I wonder what the evangelicals would do with their time were they not always on the losing end of some perceived war or another.”

I know, listening to reports is just so darn time consuming and you may actually learn something…which just might interfere with your bigotry!

By the way, the report addresses another little problem with double standards, but, again Andrew that’s just over head.

Why do I need to listen to the report? Some people don’t like an ice cream shop’s deliberately provocative name. It’s pretty cut and dried, despite the undertones of certain religious groups taking it personally.

Have you actually read the triggered ramblings of the group behind the petition? It is almost funny, until you realize just how many guns those whackos own.

Andrew, notice the phrase is in quotations. Perhaps that should tell you a little something….listen to the report for a change.
It was the New York Post headline “Christians wage war against Sweet Jesus Ice Cream Shop” David was referring to. It gave him a “jolly good laugh”, he of course explains why.

Oh look, another bozo eruption by Little Rambo.

David’s report makes some excellent points, obviously you didn’t take 5:20 to listen to it. Pretty typical of you.

Peter, that’s how they roll!

What happened to THEREBEL website last night?
As for this topic, we all get a vote every time we decide to purchase a product. If this companies logos and advertising offend enough people, we vote by not buying their product and they go out of business. At least we can hope for that outcome.

Tammie said, “Funny how some people choose to ignore the substance of the article to compare apples to oranges…strange that!”

Tammie, that is because those “some people” are hypocrites; double standard and all. Typical of those on the left.

As far as I am concerned, the owners can call their business anything they want and use whatever symbol(s) they like. I know we live in a secular world that is blindly running high speed towards all that is deprave and immoral so I just ignore the offense and go shop somewhere else.

Kind of like how the vegan protests only helped that restaurant in Toronto, a bunch of pissed off Xtians who would never eat here to begin with are only providing free publicity.

So there is still something that makes Christians defend themselves and their faith against. I guess they’re only doormats for Islam.
