Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland is rehiring for a special advisor position to help out on Venezuela, but you'd better love Cuba if you want to apply.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, the job of Special Advisor on Venezuela involves the following:
“The political, social and economic situation in Venezuela is complex and continues to deteriorate. Canada is playing a critical role regionally and globally in efforts to support the interim government and increase pressure on the illegitimate government that continues to perpetuate violence, unrest and deprivation, and refuses to return the country to constitutional order. The Americas Branch of Global Affairs Canada is responsible for coordinating Canada’s response to the crisis, including by supporting Ministerial-level bilateral, regional and multilateral engagement.”
This position is a re-appointment of a contract job offered first in April 2018, and the remuneration is $200,000 for just 240 days of work.
The only hitch for applicants? You must agree with Chrystia Freeland that the Communist dictatorship in Cuba is essential to the expression of democracy in Venezuela.
You see, according to Freeland, Cuba will have a “part to play” in restoring democracy. This must be a surprise to the people who have floated themselves across shark-filled water on garbage rafts in order to escape. Freeland has previously signed on to the notion that Donald Trump is a tyrant, so maybe the answer here is that her too-tight dresses are cutting off the flow of oxygen to her brain.
