Alison Tieman is a men’s rights activist with the Honey Badgers – a group with a large following that addresses men’s issues. She’s also an artist and creator of the popular Xenospora web comic.
In April of 2015, Alison and her Badger friends raised $9,900 to set up a joint booth at Calgary Comic Con.
They placed a Gamer Gate logo on their banner to support freedom of expression and attended a panel for women in the comic book industry. Up until that point, there were no issues, but relations soured after Alison spoke up against feminism.
Watch my video as I interview Alison and she explains how a polite disagreement sparked controversy and ended in complaints of harassment at the panel event.
The entire exchange (which can be heard HERE beginning at around the 18 minute mark) also ended in the Honey Badgers being kicked out of Comic Con, apparently for not following the rules, and as a result of Alison explaining why she doesn’t agree with feminism.
The Honey Badgers took the issue to court where they hope to have their day to push back against their treatment at the event and to ensure this doesn’t happen to anyone again.
And all of this, just for speaking politely against feminism and having an amicable discussion among a group of people with different ideas.
The Honey Badgers are scheduled to have their case heard in November of this year. I’ll continue to follow the story as it unfolds and update you with new information.
