Confederate flag vs. Planned Parenthood: Sometimes media bias is revealed in what they don't cover

Brian LilleyArchive

Media bias isn't only a case of which stories the media outlets decide to cover. Sometimes a bias is revealed by looking at the stories the media doesn't choose to cover.

I compare two recent stories coming out of the U.S.; Confederate Flag controversy and Planned Parenthood selling body parts of aborted foetuses, a story we've covered. The comparison in coverage tells another story about what can happen when too many media outlets share the same point of view.

Ok… it’s official. I NEVER want to watch that video EVER again.

Jimmy, the reason for the edit is clear. The video is 2 hours and 42 minutes long! That’s a longer run time than most movies, let alone news pieces or opinion pieces. Granted she’s not being direct in her advocacy for selling fetal organs, but she’s clearly receptive to it. When you are in a public setting, you don’t talk about deals like that in grandiose transparency. I’m heading back to the toilet now to send off the rest of my dinner.

If the video was factual – there would be no need to edit or skew anything.

We have already learned from you that you don’t believe anything that doesn’t come from a conservative source that you approve of, so it’s pointless talking to you – because you live in a bubble and you are brain dead.

So you equated “skewed” with “falsified”, do you Jimmy? Good to know. Then your precious Liberals and NDP fall firmly in the category of “falsified”, because nearly everything they mention and print is “skewed”.

Can’t have it both ways, Jimmy, me boyo.

Check your history before telling me I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about (Confederate flag). Where are you refuting Martin Luther King, and telling me he denounced that flag? You’ve made an accusation — back it up.

Yes, I’m calling you out.

Ahhh, Jimmy so you have no links to anything that is not left wing propaganda lies?
commented 2015-07-17 12:36:27 -0400
Jimmy, could you post a link where you found that the Planned Parenthood story was found false?
commented 2015-07-17 12:01:18 -0400

I am glad that you are OK with edited and skewed – to fabricate the point that you are trying to make in the way that you want.

The confederate flag story is the much bigger issue in America – it’s not even close and it’s made it’s way across the board to all sections of media and news like with TV Land dropping The Dukes Of Hazzard and the outrage that even that got. You don’t know what the hell you are talking about. Hell, Obama was just greeted with Confederate flags in Oklahoma.

No one is saying the Planned Parenthood story isn’t newsworthy – but it just hasn’t gotten the traction that you think it deserves – partly because the video is edited and skewed and fact checking websites are slowly leaning on this story as being mostly false.

Jimmy: It’s not true? Wrong. Edited and skewed, maybe, but false, not a chance.
As for people caring more about the Confederate flag issue, again, false. The outrage shown in the media when this report about Planned Parenthood was released was huge. Even Congress in the US has launched an investigation.

Is there media bias? Absolutely. Is there personal bias? Absolutely. Does the media try to bend our perceptions and beliefs to what they think we should have? Absolutely.

If the Confederate flag really was a symbol of hatred and discrimination, then why did Dr Martin Luther King not mention it? This is contrived, recent political bs, brought on by African-American agitators who don’t want to join mainstream culture, an thus have to use victimhood and an ongoing inferiority complex to keep their “uniqueness” in society. (AKA, “it’s all the white man’s fault.” Any of this sound familiar in Canada?)

President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, but it was the entire Republican Party who freed the slaves. The 1864 Republican National Convention called for the abolition of slavery, and Congressional Republicans passed the 13th Amendment unanimously, with only a few Democrat votes.

The confederate flag belongs in a museum. It’s a relic that represents bad laws in the southern US in the 1800s – bad laws supported by the Democrats at the time.

As far as abortion goes, there’s enough poverty stricken single moms out there as it is – O’Reilly over at Fox talks repeatedly about single parent households as the biggest issue behind poverty. PP gives choice. Aside from the moral issues of the just said, raising children takes time, money and a matured person. Planned Parenthood is a vile organization run by vile people. But it does serve a purpose to eradicating/reducing poverty (free stuff and handouts perpetuates poverty).

Yes ,Jimmy. The Media Bias part got lost . That is a real shame.
commented 2015-07-17 01:40:09 -0400

First of all – it’s not true, so your question is pointless.

Second of all – maybe the majority of people don’t give a shit compared to the flag? We can’t expect every news story to get the kind of traction that we think it deserves. Sometimes important news stories die, because no one really cares. Time to move on to the next story in the 24 hour news cycle.

And why…Jimmy— is chopping body parts of the UNBORN to sell for a profit LESS-of a Journalistic story than displaying the Rebel flag ?
commented 2015-07-16 23:19:16 -0400
Oh and by the way – it was just revealed to be fake. It was a hoax, so your entire point is moot. It’s actually better that The Toronto Star or CBC didn’t report bullshit – like The Rebel did.

Big fail Brian.

I know this may shock you Brian, but the confederate flag story is going to get more traction than the Planned Parenthood story, which is still under investigation. The confederate flag issue is a MUCH bigger story in America, so why would you expect anything different in Canada?

I feel your pain. Good use of your gift. You do good work. Hopefully, others will follow

The PP story is one of those things that after you know about it, you can’t ever un-know it…
And think about this, while abortions are being churned out in the operating rooms, some ghoul/monster is in the back room dissection unborn children for their body parts. Selling these lost souls for scrap.
