Corrupt Liberals use 19th century voting practices to reward union bosses

Brian LilleyArchive

We figured the Liberals owed union bosses BIG after campaigning so hard for Trudeau’s Liberals and now this week, we found out that one union made an illegal secret donation.

Don’t worry. Neither the union nor the Liberals will be charged now or in the future. That would only happen if a Conservative was involved in any way.

But, here’s what I didn’t know until yesterday. The minister in charge of the labour file who would “return the favour” by repealing key pieces of legislation passed by the last Parliament, doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about.

The legislation MaryAnn Mihychuk tabled this week seeking to repeal Bill C-525, takes away something that gave workers in federally regulated industries the right to a secret ballot when seeking to join, start or leave a union.

Are you surprised that we don’t already have this? Do we vote on anything else without a secret ballot? We haven't run an election without a secret ballot since the 1870s.

I asked her if she’d give up the secret ballot for her next election. She avoided answering my question and misrepresented what Bill C-525 was about.

Maybe she doesn’t know? She wouldn’t have to read far into the bill to find out since it’s in the summary. So I pushed her again and she proved she didn't have a clue.

Union bosses don't like secret ballots because it stops them from being able to intimidate people. Intimidation by organizers has been documented and I've spoken to past organizers who are still afraid to go on the record for fear of what will happen to them.

When workers are given a secret ballot so neither the union nor the company is able to threaten or intimidate them, they’re more likely to choose NOT to join a union.

The only way the playing field is unfair is if it’s easier for workers to be intimidated, which is why union bosses want the bill repealed and Liberals are doing it to repay the guys that spent millions helping them get elected.

The Liberals need to answer why they won’t allow people to vote in private.

This is not about being fair or levelling the playing field for workers. This is about using 19th century voting practices to reward and enrich the union bosses that helped them get elected and it’s corrupt.

Despite his shiny new face, Justin Trudeau's Liberals are the same old party they’ve always been.

The unions (bar none) are the most corrupt organizations in Canada. They refuse to allow memberships have right-to-work legislation – it would put them out of business. They do secret deals with politicians and they get involved with both gambling and sponsorships without telling the membership. They have virtually no transparency. Unions should be banned.

If what you say is true about this being an illegal donation, then I blame the Conservative Party leadership for not bringing this issue up hard and fast with the Canadian public, just like the libs did with the Duffy/Wright non scandal. Hammer, hammer and keep hammering that scandalous nail until it hits home. But, unfortunately, the Conservatives will probably let this one fly and continue to seek the moral, high ground on issues such as this. The Liberals, on the other hand, will always go for the juggler. No matter what. And that is why they are winners. They know that politics is an ugly business with no room for ideological wimps.

Back in the 70’s/80’s/90’s I was a Provincial Government employee. I was told every year that if I didn’t join the Union I would be blackballed. So I was. I am not a union person, and stood my ground.

Well our illustrious PM said it best when, referring to the win in October, he said “We’re back”! Indeed. Snout to the trough all you piggies.

The union bosses won this round. Look at how their illegal donations have gone unpunished. The only people that get screwed with this change is the workers who actually willing to work. Companies reward workers on merit, not seniority.

Don’t forget that this is the party that wants to change how our government is elected as well. Does the old saying " Vote early and vote often " ring a bell? Or when people were paid to vote?

If you are an employee and a union is trying to move in, are you going to want to give away how you voted? Likely not. That is why I say the change in the system will not favor the unions. Employees will end up finding that unions are not worth the trouble they bring.

Sam Young I believe you have it backwards: Unless I am mistaken unions do NOT do secret ballot like we do in real world democracy. This way unions keep dibs on members, make sure they are towing the party line, and if need be, a swift ass-kickin’ may be required to get them back with the program. This is how unions gain and maintain control of their interests (same as political cronies) thus fucking the possibility and probability of what is supposed to be, meant to be, a democratic result of the democratic process. Thus such brotherhoods are in cahoots with the right politicians, they hi-jack the majority rules, manipulate and obtain their own end. Ultimately the social agenda meant to save the down-trodden keeps everyone down (except the select few as usual). If I am misinformed, I am happy to be brought up to speed.

Right on Brian, same old lying, hypocrite party. When Chrétien was PM, I could hardly wait for him & his cronies to exit & now we are again facing the same crap, different pile, nothing changed. Why do you think Trump is so far ahead in the polls, he won’t have to pander to anyone because he is using his own finances. So much for gender equality Mr. Trudeau, but in this case I can’t say beauty before brains & pretty pathetic for a labor minister who wants to repeal a law that she is hopelessly clueless on. Nice bunch you have there Mr. Trudeau, ministers who believe in sharia law…..ministers who have no clue what they’re talking about……ministers who want to kill the oil/gas industry…….you’ve taken Canada back alright, back to that same B.S of your liberal predecessors.

Nobody will care. Big Media won’t care. Elections Canada won’t care. They all carry water for the Liberals.
This country is so phucked.

Brian, I would have to disagree with you on this one. Not on the argument that secret ballots are a good thing. Rather, it is because it would work against the unions to get rid of the secret ballot. What employee would want to sign up to bring in a union, if their information was public? An employee would be scared to know that their employer has the knowledge of which employees were in favor of bringing in a union. The employers have won this one, Brian.

Dear Diary;
It looks like Canada is going to hell in a handbasket. Oil’s not making me any money, it looks like the economy is tanking, at least since November, people seem pissed off with just about everything from Iran to pipelines, someone even said that the stone was dropping like a Loonie. It’s too bad that I wasn’t elected sooner as Dear Leader in order to bring my Sunny Ways to the country’s problems.
So rather than wait until next week for the U.S. Senate hearings to question my ambassador on why we might be bringing so many perpetrators of workplace violence to their doorstep, like the man of action that I am, I sprung into action and called B.O., peace be upon him, so that he could tell me what to do.
He told me that it’s really easy, like Lloyd Nolan pointed out, just come up with some minor stuff as diversions, things that I don’t actually give a shit about, but which will touch a few nerves with the zombies and keep their tongues wagging while they loiter around in Timmies. Brilliant. I’ll get Mauril to bring up that old chestnut about making the national anthem gender neutral, that always gets the patriotic half of the country all worked up. Gerald’s suggested that we could leak something about some guy in Toronto getting kicked out of his hotel room to make room for Syrian voters, that’ll get the bleeding hearts into a hissy-fit. Now I just need something to raise the hackles of the right-wingers, oh wait, I’ve already done that. When I issued a statement a couple of days ago to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I did it without mentioning Jews. In fact I even threw in something about hate, prejudice and discrimination spreading unchallenged. Only the cons will notice that as being my dog-whistle support for my Muslim brothers.

She reminds me of the Mash episode about the incubator and the General’s spin response to the grilling he was getting.

Demarais, Dussault, Quebec mafia (with strong ties to NYC mafia) – this is the garbage that runs Canada and this is what Canadian voters choose.

You have to wonder why Canadians haven’t figured out these fraudulent trash people … yet.

Throughout the decades, whatever the liberals touch turns into financial disaster for the average Canadian.

It’s no secrete the Liberal Party of Canada is run by the Quebec Mafia. This is why the Liberal party is documented as the criminal party of Canada. Ascam was chump change. This new Mafia Liberal machine will be stealing billions before we can get rid of these criminals.

I don’t see any other news outlets showing video of the minister being so unaware.

If it had been a Harper minister, it would be airing non-stop and there’d be a Rick Mercer rant about it…

How could anyone in their right mind advocate non-secret ballots???…. oh, I guess I answered my own question.

Liberals same corrupt party as they always have been … except they are further left leaning than they ever have been before.
