February will mark the four-year anniversary that the government regulator for TV and radio and phones in Canada, the CRTC, killed the only conservative TV station in Canada, called the Sun News Network.
You will not be surprised to learn that now the CRTC, the same people who shut down Sun News Network, now want the power to regulate the Internet, especially news.
They specifically mention short news videos like this one, like we specialize in here at The Rebel Media.
We're the largest YouTube news channel in Canada, measured by subscribers — more than CTV or Global or even the CBC state broadcaster.
I really can’t think of anyone else in Canada who they could possibly be talking about, can you?
TONIGHT I'll show you what the CRTC is proposing.
Some is quite Orwellian. Some is contradictory. Some is just laughable.
But the meaning is still crystal clear:
They intend to regulate voices on the Internet they don’t like.
But it’s not just my right to speak that will be eroded. It’s your right to hear, and make up your own mind.
Here's an excerpt of their filing:
"When elements of this system are left unchecked and offer false or misleading information to Canadians, without strong, accurate, independent and trustworthy sources of rebuttal, the ability of Canadians to fully exercise their democratic rights suffers.”
Elements of this system? Is that code for — people who say things they don’t like? Left unchecked — what does that mean? Unchecked by whom? By the government? But we don’t believe the government is a check on the people. We believe the people are a check on the government.
If we’re committing some crime, come at us.
But these people are not police or prosecutors. They’re TV and radio cops. They hate things for political reasons, not criminal reasons.
What they really mean in censorship.
This is a 21-page manifesto for the government take-over of the Internet. And the mainstream media doesn’t really care. They haven't run a single story about this.
The CRTC had no problem euthanizing Sun News Network, a $50 million conservative TV network owned by a Quebec billionaire, while Prime Minister Stephen Harper said and did nothing.
Do you really think they’d hesitate for a second to kill a conservative Internet news channel like The Rebel Media, owned by some rabble like me, with Justin Trudeau in charge, and Gerald Butts egging them on?
They will. They just told us they will.
They just told us how they will.
This will happen this year. Mark my words...
NEXT: Mark Morano of ClimateDepot.com joins me to talk about some breaking "global warming" stories, particularly the news that "700 federal scientists might be forced to miss a climate conference junket during the government shutdown" in the United States.
FINALLY: Your messages to me!
