CRTC wants to regulate companies that make short news videos — like The Rebel Media

Rebel Staff

February will mark the four-year anniversary that the government regulator for TV and radio and phones in Canada, the CRTC, killed the only conservative TV station in Canada, called the Sun News Network.

You will not be surprised to learn that now the CRTC, the same people who shut down Sun News Network, now want the power to regulate the Internet, especially news.

They specifically mention short news videos like this one, like we specialize in here at The Rebel Media.

We're the largest YouTube news channel in Canada, measured by subscribers — more than CTV or Global or even the CBC state broadcaster.

I really can’t think of anyone else in Canada who they could possibly be talking about, can you?

TONIGHT I'll show you what the CRTC is proposing.

Some is quite Orwellian. Some is contradictory. Some is just laughable.

But the meaning is still crystal clear:

They intend to regulate voices on the Internet they don’t like.

But it’s not just my right to speak that will be eroded. It’s your right to hear, and make up your own mind.

Here's an excerpt of their filing:

"When elements of this system are left unchecked and offer false or misleading information to Canadians, without strong, accurate, independent and trustworthy sources of rebuttal, the ability of Canadians to fully exercise their democratic rights suffers.”

Elements of this system? Is that code for — people who say things they don’t like? Left unchecked — what does that mean? Unchecked by whom? By the government? But we don’t believe the government is a check on the people. We believe the people are a check on the government.

If we’re committing some crime, come at us.

But these people are not police or prosecutors. They’re TV and radio cops. They hate things for political reasons, not criminal reasons.

What they really mean in censorship.

This is a 21-page manifesto for the government take-over of the Internet. And the mainstream media doesn’t really care. They haven't run a single story about this.

The CRTC had no problem euthanizing Sun News Network, a $50 million conservative TV network owned by a Quebec billionaire, while Prime Minister Stephen Harper said and did nothing.

Do you really think they’d hesitate for a second to kill a conservative Internet news channel like The Rebel Media, owned by some rabble like me, with Justin Trudeau in charge, and Gerald Butts egging them on?

They will. They just told us they will.

They just told us how they will.

This will happen this year. Mark my words...

NEXT: Mark Morano of ClimateDepot.com joins me to talk about some breaking "global warming" stories, particularly the news that "700 federal scientists might be forced to miss a climate conference junket during the government shutdown" in the United States.

Some John Diefenbaker quotes on Media:
Whoever has charge of commenting on the news controls the future thinking of the nation.
[August 24, 1946]

If we ever arrive at the point at which two or three powerful newspapers control the thinking of Canada, then Canadian rights end.
[June 15, 1965]

The freedom of the press in a society of fee men depends upon commercial freedom of the press, freedom from direct or indirect government subsidies or other forms of control.
[March 28, 1963]

I suppose the head in the sand strategy works for most Canadians… it’s the kind of thinking that’s historically gotten many nations in a pickle… while we have it good, the bad can work undetected.

Jill Ward,

You are batshit crazy.
I see Nicholas is back to his bat excrement fixation again. Weird.

Those who preach to us common people how to save the earth do not practice what they preach. It is the same the world over. Even here in NZ where the government has banned plastic bags to save the planet and put an end to all oil and gas exploration do the same. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/109786626/ministry-of-environment-spends-45000-a-month-in-airfares-in-the-battle-against-climate-change.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has a section on its website where it explains to New Zealanders what they can do to help combat climate change, including flying less, working remotely, and using video-conferencing. I think it is the “do as I say and not as I do” rhetoric that eventually will just allow people to see through this cult like ideology.
Interestingly enough, in my latest church newsletter there was an article encouraging its parishioners to eat less meat and eat more delicious veggies to save our planet. So there is a religious aspect developing to the climate change philosophy.

Good message Stephen. Much like the Ward’s comments, this group here already knows and agrees with it.
Our problem is trying to inform the other 70% of Canada.

Good comment, Stephen!

Right from the beginning I have been referring to Justin T. as “Baby Doc”, as in the dictator son of the Haitian dictator Papa Doc Duvalier. Trudeau has always had a leaning towards and shown favouritism for dictatorships and dictators

Trudeau, or at least those manipulating him, have slowly been moving Canada toward a less free, less democratic nation. We now have laws controlling what was once free speech. We now have laws regarding how to address people and which religions we can and can’t comment upon.

Our Baby doc has been slowly eroding away at what being Canadian means. We have been told by him that we have no culture, except when it is convenient for him, and that we must welcome and adapt to new arrivals flooding into our country at great expense to us. Diversity has suddenly become strength; unity was once our strength but not any more, This breaking down of our national cohesion simply makes us more rabble than an opinionated force to consider as opposing his rule. Now anyone disagreeing with him are liars, ultra-right wing, Nazis, intolerant, ignorant, Albertans, un-Quebec, and un-Canadian. Oh yes, Islamophonbes, whatever that means.

Trudeau is getting his ducks in a row for the coming election: he has warned the Internet that if it doesn’t control the news and commentary he will do something about it. Fake news to him is anything uncomplimentary towards him and his government. He ipromises to increase the CBC’s budget and has the CBC further in his pocket. He is making a blatant bribe of $595,000,000 of tax payer money to “journalists” and media outlets that give approving coverage of him and the Liberals, and never mentioning anything negative such as failed programs, the giving away of our taxes to other countries, or anything negative of the so-called refugees he has brought in unvetted,

Now, the CRTC is pushing to have control over the Internet, to monitor and control what is allowed to be broadcast as news and commentary. Another attack on freedom of speech; another stifling of freedom of thought.

Trudeau wants to have StatsCan get banking (and credit) information on 500,000 Canadians this year, and another 500,000 next year and so on. Why? This is something that dictatorships do. Examples include China, Venezuela, North Korea and iron fisted governments such as Russia. When you know who has the money and where they put it you can control where it goes and know when funds are working against you.

Slowly, our rights are being eroded. First in small measures, and later in more blatant actions. First Bill 16, soon M-103 will be law. Facebook and Google have been warned, and we have seen how fast they are willing to comply. Then comes the CRTC; soon it will be decreeing what is acceptable political commentary, disenfranchise the non-compliant or questioning press. Soon there will be the labeling of people un-citizens because of what they say or believe. His personal guard of the RCMP are already strong-arming and questioning people to heckle or challenge him in public; how long before it becomes arrests?

What next? Nationalising major industries, communications, limiting travel, the monitoring of all telephone calls? I wouldn’t put it past Trudeau and his cohorts. He does not seem to see doing this as oppressive.

After all, he does admire China’s basic dictatorship. It works so well there. Why not try it here?

This same principle also applies to accusations of racism, extreme right wing, or any other accusation.

If the accuser cannot:
1. Post a link to the video/article where the supposed offence occurred
2. Prove hoe this comment fits the accusation
then the accusation is false and the accuser is a liar.
commented 2019-01-14 07:53:00 -0500
If The Rebel is posting videos/articles where they are lying, then bring those lies forward so we can all see them.

- Post a link to the video/article.
- Highlight the supposed lie
- Prove that what was said/written was a lie

If the accuser cannot provide proof of lies, then his accusation means nothing.

Ron Joseph-
Somehow I think that news is going to be left out for a while.
Almost a dozen are dead without the live ammunition bc of Yellow Vests riots as it is.
I hope I’m wrong.

Keith Barnes,Jill Ward :"Perhaps when we become like England and our Sons and Daughters are being raped at school, we will jump out of the daze that we are in and say….Enough is enough. "
Maybe if we had a smaller country like England, we could better control our borders as to the quality of people we let in.

If Trudeau gets back in: Western Canada Only.

Karen Macleod—-What’s paranoid & irrational about circling protestors around the Arc de Triomphe then opening fire,
Thanks for the link on the Police Rifles, however I haven’t see that they opened fire.

Karen, British police are often armed with Assault Rifles, they use them to threaten White Guys who gather when the Muslims get frisky. The police have now found a solution to stop mobile Muslim robbers, who ride around on Vespa type Scooters snatching purses and cell phones etc. Before they could never catch them but now they have taken to just ramming them with police cars. Scooter and rider become separated but both slide up the street, usually in the same direction.

Mean people like mean people as company.
Guess what that says about me?
Anywho. Keep an eye on how many poor protestors Macron kills today.
Very heartbreaking.

Eeew, Keith!
Anyways. Just trying to entertain everybody about CRTC standards within the gov’t.
This kind of journalism is okay for the CBC but I bet they want to restrict this kind of content for the Rebel.
Some people struggle to have one partner. Some juggle multiple partners.
Should Christians & Jews go back to polygamy just to keep up? I think I can handle several guys at once. 😌
But gotta love Islam, the feminist religion where I’d get stoned for having a spouse, a boyfriend and a crush all at once. Just kidding, that’s vulgar but if a man does it, its just as gross if a woman does it.
I wish there was more about islam on the Rebel like it used to cover but youtube cracked down on them too hard. Too bad, it would boost their ratings.
Just have it on the site! They can’t ban whatever the Rebel wants to put on its own site. For now.

Dems took over the house in November!
