2. Germany: A 29-year-old refugee has been shot dead by police after a row at a Berlin asylum centre involving claims that his daughter had been sexually abused.
Police were called to the shelter in the Moabit area amid reports that the girl had been abused in a nearby park.
A suspect aged 27 had just been put in a police car in handcuffs when the girl's father is said to have lunged at him with a knife.
Witnesses said the father had shouted out: "You won't survive this."
Police responded by opening fire and the man, of Iraqi origin, was taken to hospital where he later died.
Witnesses reported hearing two or three shots. An investigation into the shooting will be carried out by Berlin police's homicide division.
3. Egyptian TV host supports the assassination of Jordanian cartoonist for blasphemy, minutes before his trial was to begin.
It should be noted that the Egyptian TV host both supported the charge (blasphemy for drawing an Islam critical cartoon) as well as the murder of the man before without due process.
This is a critical component of Islam.
The nature of the charges or the horrific and barbaric punishments such as stoning or crucifixion, while bad enough, are not the truly repugnant aspects of Islamic sharia.
It is that anyone can simply murder the accused without any kind of process to determine innocence or guilt, and the killer will be celebrated by the popular culture and even the government, if it is a sharia oriented government.
We see this often in the Islamic world, with the assassination of lawyers who defend those accused of blasphemy, or lawmakers who support determining guilt by trial, or are considering removing blasphemy as a death penalty offense, such as one state governor of Pakistan.
