Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, was recently in California pumping up our clean energy industry at yet another climate change conference where she rubbed shoulders with California Governor Jerry Brown and other industry officials.
McKenna says Canadian green tech is grabbing the attention of Silicon Valley, gushing about the great opportunity for Canada and asserting that venture capital firms are very interested in what we’re doing.
Overall industry revenue grew by only 8% in 2015 and isn’t on par with the original projection that clean tech would bring in $50B in revenue by 2022. It also shows total revenue is closer to $18B now with poor returns tied to a 12% decline in Canada’s market share in international competitiveness.
What’s even weirder is McKenna says she’s hearing how excited foreigners are about Canada’s fast-tracked immigration program claiming there’s a lot of interest in coming to work in green tech in Canada in this article from the Times Colonist.
What happened to retraining oil and gas workers?
Clean energy is the hot new topic that gains the Liberals money, votes and power and they’re counting on people not doing their research. Time and again, these programs prove to be government boondoggles that don’t even work without billions in taxpayer subsidies.
The Liberals and their provincial cohorts would rather see people starve than give up on this scam as we’ve seen in Ontario where families are lining up at food banks because they can’t afford their hydro bills.
