How to defeat the Left's dumbest straw man arguments. (I'm looking at you, Bill Maher)

Gavin McInnesArchive

I saw something on Bill Maher's show the other day and it was so stupid I had to talk about it.

Maher does something in this video that the Left does all the time:

They reframe an issue in a way that makes it impossible for any "decent" person to object, then they ask, "How can anybody be against THAT??"

Gay marriage is a good example.

They'll say, "How can you possibly be against two people being in love?"

But gay marriage isn't about "two people being in love" -- it sure seems to have way more to do with picking on Christians who own bakeries, banquet halls and bed and breakfasts.

Ron and Kelly prove everything Gavin said in the video.

This isn’t even fun anymore. Progressives have become joyless hatemongers who can only sneer at those they disagree with. They don’t even try to argue.

WAY TOO MUCH COMMON SENSE!!! The elitist , entitled spoiled little brats were taught how to debate not think for themselves. They bully people by telling them that they are DUMB. Remember the fear of being called Dumb by your 1st grade teacher, first love, coach, or University Prof. It is Primal fear, and THEY KNOW IT. Baffle them by refusing to debate them on their terms! PUSH BACK HARD!

John Landry, that’s what l thought homophobia originally meant as well. Otherwise why hate them. One less man in the quest to get the girls.

Once you get SJWs involved, even definitions change. It is a shame that thinking takes second place to regurgitating.

So true. Homophobia is the fear that yourself is gay. Straight aware people have no need or desire to fear gay people. It is only those who are unsure of themselves that display homophobia.

Gavin in a normal world, recognizing and calling fallacy should negate these false beliefs. Unfortunately we don’t live there.

Fantastic commentary Gavin. The one bit you missed though is the majority of people actually are the grey area of which you speak. The silent majority if you will. All we hear now are loudest, most obnoxious, shit-disturbing MINORITY who unfortunately are the ones driving the agenda and dominating the mainstream media. Most of the people in that grey area just recoil at the though of stepping into that tidal wave of shit that now passes for public discourse. Shaming, labeling, name calling, marginalization and intimidation are the order of the day. And most of THAT comes from the regressive left.

I see Ron C has surfaced from the depths of hell. Ronny, I think the Rebel should do a fundraiser so we could send you on a holiday. You really do need a REST. Venezuela seems like a good choice. It must be right up your political alley. Make sure you take your own toilet paper. We can send Kelly Zak with you as well, seems like a perfect travel mate for you. Looks like a match made in heaven. Beyond that, GET HELP !!!

Bill Mahr isn’t even funny. Gay marriage would be fine if vendors and churches weren’t FORCED to participate. At least in Canada, a church is well within its rights to say no. Of course, when you force people to support your moral posturing, all the fake victims looking for a pay day come out of the woodwork. I’d be so embarrassed to be gay in America these days, thanks social justice idiots!

Gavin McInnes could not hold a candle to Bill Maher.

Gavin hit on the great truth about lefties. They never learn from their mistakes, they never learn from history (i.e. other people’s mistakes) and they refuse to exercise discernment. “Professing to be wise they became fools.”

Hahahaha, this Gavin idiot just embarrassed himself on US national tv and even got called a lunatic. Just when we thought Ezra was the biggest looney, this Gavin meathead tops him. Congrats.

Great episode.
The fallacies fly around all over the place;
and the bizarre thing is that nobody calls people out on it.

If one reads a book on all the common fallacies, you’ll start recognizing them all the time.

One of the biggest fallacies right now is the largest hoax in modern history, the fake 97% consensus on catastrophic human-cause global warming (CAGW) (A = anthropogenic)

Which is simply an “argumentum ad populum”;
a false appeal to a so-called majority or popularity,
aka, a “majority rules fallacy”,
if a majority believe it then it must be true.
or, because it’s popular, it has to be true.

This is a fallacy of reasoning in which a person offers the ‘agreement of most people’ as the grounds for the truthfulness of a claim.

If that were the case, then the death cult of Mohammedism would be the true religion for religious people.

Maher is absolutely awash with fallacy, I can’t even listen to the guy without getting that puking sensation.

My all weather retort for this kind of fallacious argument is " check your presumptions" – and shut it down right there before I get involved in another teaching bout with mis/under informed laftards

The best retort is “if you had any consideration for others, you would be against it”

Ask a member of the vocal social left to present their point of view that also considers other groups.

They can’t because consideration for others is something such selfish people can not do.

It is such said selfish people who will react by playing the bigot hate card, much like a brat who will claim his parents hate him if they ask him to show consideration for other members of the family when he/she wants a e.g. toy, but when the parents say they cant afford it because they have to buy e.g. needed shoes for her brother – out comes the “you hate me” accusation.

Maher only selfishly cares about patting himself on the back for fighting for the “rights” of a politically correct “marginalized” group. Consideration for others in Christians being deliberately targets and harassed is something Maher would not do, and probably call you a homophobe if you asked him to show consideration for others.
