In April, The Rebel, Vancouver Sun, and Global News all ran stories about an RCMP investigation of a controversial land swap entered into by the City of Vancouver and Brenhill Properties.
We’ve reported extensively on this seemingly fishy deal.
Interestingly, after running stories on the RCMP investigation, all three news organizations received a letter from Lawson Lundell, the legal team representing Brenhill, insisting that while the RCMP were reviewing documents and the complaint, they felt a formal investigation was not ongoing.
We disagreed, since we had an email from the RCMP stating it would continue to investigate but both Global News and The Rebel added the note from Brenhill in an update to our stories.
But the story didn't end there. Within a week, the Vancouver Sun pulled down their story completely. It vanished.
Thanks to documents leaked to The Rebel, we now might have an idea why.
Watch as I explain the timeline of events and share communications that transpired that seem to show just how willing the City is to try to kill reporting on this story.
We think there’s more the city isn't telling us about this deal so we’ll be appealing to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for related documents that we believe the city has either lost, destroyed, or is hiding.
