The mainstream media are losing their minds now that conservatives have finally sealed the deal to unite the right in Alberta. You can tell by the way they're pulling out all of their social issue “gotcha” questions at every presser they attend.
Their latest fake outrage victim is new United Conservative Party interim leader, Nathan Cooper.
At a presser announcing the UCP’s new leadership team, Cooper was asked about his time working as a spokesperson and on a talk radio show for a social conservative group with apparent homophobic views.
He said his views had changed but this exchange and Cooper’s answers on LGBTQ’s, gay straight alliances and parental rights became the mainstream media headlines for the day.
The questions asked stemmed from a poorly sourced Press Progress article that contained links that didn’t function and vague references. In fact, if you try to dig down into the article's content, none of the links to what’s promised as “eyebrow raising” content, actually work so you can’t access this information to see or hear for yourself.
Bear in mind that Press Progress is maintained by the Broadbent Institute, named after former NDP leader Ed Broadbent. There haven’t been any slow news days in Alberta this week, so it would appear the media’s in full campaign mode against the United Conservative Party.
And today, they’ve actually found a new topic to smear Cooper with - his stance on abortion, because having private religious views is apparently controversial. In the wake of this, the Minister who called us “Sewer Rats”, Sarah Hoffman demanded that Cooper either resign, or offer an explanation.
I can think of more than a few things that the entire NDP should resign over - where should I start?
