Elections Canada and the "media party" have a history of treating conservatives and conservative-minded groups one way, and left-wing, union-backed groups and parties another.
The election hasn't even officially begun and we've already seen examples of the different treatment each side can expect from the "media party" in their response to third-party groups like HarperPAC versus Engage Canada.
The rules and spending limits change for these groups once the writ drops but can we trust Elections Canada and the "media party" to pay attention to what the union funded third party groups are doing once the campaign is official?
Based on their track records, I don't have a lot of hope.
I run through several examples of double-standards from past elections and ask whether we need a watch dog for the watch dogs as we head into the election.
