The latest move from the federal government to put further restrictions on cigarette packaging should concern Canadians whether you smoke or not because it speaks to a broader issue of the desire to control individual choices of Canadians.
Recent comments made by Health Minister, Jane Philpott show that she’s convinced that plain packaging is the way to go, industry concerns be damned. So much for intellectual property rights.
We already have huge restrictions on cigarette packaging on packages that no one can see anyway since stores are required to keep them hidden from public view lest children be tempted.
They are making it clear that they intend to take their nanny state attitude to the extreme and will use the courts to make it happen.
You don’t have to be a smoker to know that what they’re doing here is wrong.
