“Long overdue”: Ford cuts off Forests Ontario’s corporate welfare

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Host | The Gunn Show

The mainstream media and the organized left in Ontario are furious with Premier Doug Ford for cutting the $4.7 million the provincial government gives annually to Forests Ontario.

But I think it's a good thing for a lot of different reasons.

Today I'll show you how Forests Ontario's project to plant 50 million trees on private land was just a crony capitalism project to provide corporate welfare to seedling nurseries.

I'll also show you how ineffective the project was:

With 12 years under their belt and 5.5 years left in their timeline, Forest Ontario has taken roughly $50 millionfrom the Ontario government and barely achieved half the goal of 50 million trees.

I'll also show you, using Vivian Krause's research, that Forests Ontario was a recipient of Tides Foundation money in 2015. That alone should disqualify them from public funds, especially now that the Ontario PC's have vowed to never stand in the way of resource development.

Trees are important and seedlings are cheap. If you like them and want them, then pay for them yourself.

Nice post. I learn something new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon every day. It’s always useful to read through articles from other writers and practice a little something from other web sites.

Doug Ford is doing a good job.

We need to rationalize the public education system, as an urgent priority, start shashing budgets, no more union largesse.

Apparently, a constituent talked to Ford on the phone, and he expressed surprise at this announcement – Ford apparently had no idea of what this funding cut was.

Yes Andrew, contrary to popular misconception, elected officials do not micro manage their bureaucracies. Cost saving measures are signed off by appointed senior bureaucrats.

Robert Hewgill,

C. White… Yes it was an environmentalist kook who cut down the golden spruce.. But what do you expect in a province that encourages “pakalolo smoke” gurus to run the government, set the agenda, and welcomes all druggies from Nova Scotia on West, to move here and set the “theatre” seen on our streets each and every day???

Thanks for bringing these things to light. I’m so glad that we can hear about these things from The Rebel because the media party won’t tell us about them.

As someone who was brought up through forestry, worked in forestry to pay for university (when it was real education), and still has relatives and friends working in forestry; I am glad that Shiela pointed out that forestry is responsible for the majority of tree planting. Compared to fake environmentalists.

I would also point out that in Alberta elementary students (Gr. 3?) plant as many trees on Arbour Day and have done for decades. Started by forestry, but I admit that I am not sure who funds the program now. However, a forestry industry initiative.

Finally, why do the false environmentalists ignore the cutting down of the once in a billion golden spruce on Haida Gwai? 300 years old. Totem to the Haida. Could it be the tree was cut down by an idiot environmentalist (redundant phrase) in protest of logging. By golly, it is.

Anyone involved with Tides or anyone else that funds the eco terrorist outfits needs to brought up on racketeering charges.

Those crying for and talking to the trees are idiots. What … do they think Lord of the Rings is a documentary, not fantasy?
