Senator Mike Duffy, former broadcaster turned politician, has been cleared on all 31 charges against him.
Duffy didn’t say anything to reporters as he left the Ottawa courtroom but his lawyer Donald Bayne said Duffy was completely vindicated.
As Duffy’s trial comes to an end, we continue to hear stories about other Senators paying back expenses but not ALL expenses. Bayne rightfully noted that Duffy is the only one that faced criminal prosecution despite other cases which involve much larger sums than the $90,000 in Duffy’s case.
Bayne went on to say that the total dollar amount in unresolved cases could be as high as $550,000 yet to be repaid to taxpayers.
When the Senate next sits, Duffy can take his seat now that he’s been completely restored as a Senator in good standing, a decision that may leave some in the Media Party angry but may leave others wondering what all the fuss was about.
