Elizabeth May wants Commons prayer "amended to remove references to God"

Rebel Staff

In light of the Supreme Court's ruling against a Quebec town council that began its meetings with a prayer, some members of parliament are trying to determine how to bring the House of Commons in line with the decision.

The Globe & Mail reports that the New Democratic Party has approached Speaker Andrew Scheer to clarify the standing orders of the House on the matter, and "decide who has the authority to end the daily prayer."

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May and NDP MP Francoise Boivin are among the federal politicians who the Globe & Mail says feel "the prayer should be amended to remove references to God."

The Speaker's spokeswoman, Heather Bradley, told the Globe & Mail that "the Speaker has no intention of changing" the practice of prayer in the House of Commons, which dates back to a standing order instituted in 1877.

Bradley added, however, that standing orders can be amended with a simple majority vote.

Both NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau have expressed a preference for a moment of "contemplation" or "solemn reflection" rather than a spoken prayer.

This econut will say anything to get her name and agenda in the news. If you can, just ignore her. I read somewhere she’s American. Can an American even become PM?

Every time Elizabeth May opens her mouth proves she is dumb as a stump.

and it continues. As it will, until the left thinks they have God out of everything. Fruitless effort; nonetheless, it seems to do something for them as they do try rather hard.

Replace the reference to God with a reference to Gaia the man hating earth goddess and that should keep both the Greens and the feminists happy.

More anti-Christian nonsense from our usual leftist politicians. We should keep the prayer. It is part of our culture and tradition. The Supreme Court is going far beyond its jurisdiction. We are not a republic, such as the USA in which the Supreme Court of part of a balancing act between the legislature and a President.

By what right and authority does the Supreme Court make laws? It is there to ENFORCE existing laws. This started under Trudeau Sr, and has never been corrected. It was a stupid, political decision, and the House of Commons should stand against such stupidity. But, we’re talking politics, here…

So the Trudeau and Mulcair Roman Catholics (should b ex communicated) want God removed from the prayer!! Just another reason to ensure these two never get into power. Just look at Ontario for a liberal version of communism.

Liz May probably supports making O Canada gender-neutral and pacifist too.

The value of a spoken prayer is that it is common. It coheses the House around a common purpose. A moment of private reflection allows anyone to pray his/her god overthrows parliament, kills the PM or whatever. A prayer to a generic God or Higher Power that includes codes of ethics like humanism so atheists are included should be created and maintained so the House does not lose its daily reminder of its members’ common purpose.

May is a godless socialist pig like the rest of the socialists so this is no surprise. May is an American born with a silver spoon – from Connecticut and another one of those paid for activist lawyers. Just another fringe element much like um-um-um-uh-uh-uh Troodoo.
