Yet again a Canadian oil and gas company has capitulated to social justice warriors and thrown in the towel in a fight against political correctness as Enbridge surrendered a hard earned court victory to Stand.Earth.
In 2014, the National Energy Board approved an application made by Enbridge to reverse the flow of oil in its Line 9 pipeline.
Originally built in 1976 to provide Central Canada with crude from Alberta, Line 9 was reversed in 1998 as global oil prices hit their lowest point in seventy years.
Later, when global oil prices surged and Canadian oil was still heavily discounted, Enbridge tried to reverse Line 9's oil-flow so Alberta gold could flow back east once more and by December of 2015, the reversal was complete.
However, having ethical Canadian oil displace foreign imports from OPEC dictatorships never sits well with foreign funded environmental groups so protests and legal actions were pursued against Enbridge.
One of those groups, Stand, has operations in both the US and Canada and relies heavily on money from TIDES and the Bullit Foundation with the US based organizations backed by billionaires like George Soros and Tom Steyer.
Stand launched a challenge of the NEB's approval, claiming the public was excluded from the review process.
As an intervenor in the case, when Stand lost they were ordered to pay Enbridge $14,559 to cover the company's legal costs.
Fast forward three years later and Stand, despite its big money backers, never paid.
Watch as I show you how activists in Stand’s Vancouver office completely freaked out when the court sent sheriffs out to enforce the court order and collect the assets to pay the judgment.
Who cares if Stand throws a Twitter tantrum, or if they fundraise off this? And who cares if conspiracies circulate claiming Donald Trump was somehow behind the Sherrifs’ collection efforts?
Apparently Enbridge cares, as they quickly backed down.
It seems the Enbridge PR team decided that optics, and pretending to be a social justice warrior company, trumps shareholders and employees.
