A month ago, through an exclusive access to information investigation, we broke the news that Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada found no documents related to our request for records of the ministry tracking Syrian refugees for terrorist and criminal activity beginning in December 2015.
The results were shocking given that for the past three years America’s Department of Homeland Security had been warning about fraudulent Syrian passports issued by the Islamic State. In fact, two of the suicide bombers in the horrific November 2015 Paris attacks, entered France using ISIS issued passports, claiming to be Syrian refugees.
A Canadian Border Services Agency audit of the government's handling of the Syrian refugee crisis released last year also detailed serious screening gaps. Thirty-nine refugee cases hadn't been screened at all and 150 more had crucial screening material missing.
We filed identical Access to Information requests into both ministries, and neither ministry had any documents for us.
I'll keep looking but I'm starting to think there’s no one in the federal government tasked with making sure terrorist haven't used the Syrian refugee crisis, and Justin Trudeau's virtue signalling, to infiltrate our borders.
