Policy Horizons Canada is a government agency that describes itself as a foresight and knowledge organization within the federal public service that anticipates emerging policy challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing and complex world.
But they can’t be that good because Policy Horizons never foresaw how they might anger the public with a post on their official website claiming Santa was now a climate refugee taking solace at the South Pole.
The post blamed rising global temperatures, rapidly melting arctic ice, and growing human operations in the North that led Santa to sign an agreement with the International community to relocate his village to operate in the South Pole.
The stupidity of this post made international news - it was even on Fox News.
We filed an access to information request because we wanted to know how this crazy post came to be. In response, we received over 60 pages of pure gold!
Today I’ll share the emails exchanged between bureaucrats while planning the post, along with the Canadian public’s reaction in emails sent to the agency.
The cluelessness of the bureaucrats who didn’t anticipate how poorly their post would be received, and the response from Canadians, is an early Christmas present from me to you.
