Trump was looking for a fight on NAFTA, so Trudeau gave him one

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

If you’re Justin Trudeau, is it a good idea to jack up tariffs on U.S. goods when you’ve got a U.S. president who loves picking fights with foreign countries over trade?

Justin Trudeau did it anyway.

So Donald Trump had a press conference yesterday. Talking about Trudeau’s tariff, Trump said:

“It’s another very typical one-sided deal against the United States and its not going to be happening for very long.”

So what did Trudeau do? Get on the phone with Trump? Fly down there?

No, he had his ambassador send a scolding public letter out, claiming that America shouldn’t be so haughty and high and mighty.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the 2019 Liberal re-election strategy is to pick a fight with Donald Trump.

That’s the only explanation that makes sense here.

Because the alternative is maybe just as bad:

That Trudeau and Butts really don’t have a clue how to run their government, or their diplomacy.

NEXT: Raymond Ibrahim of the Middle East Forum explains why this Easter season was once again a "magnet" for Islamist violence.

THEN: The Rebel's own Barbara Kay talks about the way academics insist on portraying Muslims as victims of "oppression," while defending violence in the name of Islam at the same time.

FINALLY: Your messages to me!

Concerning the dairy trade barrier, I wonder if we have put our dairy industry in jeopardy by controling our stock’s flow so stringently with the quota system. Of course, it makes sense to protect our dairy import in such a system.

But what would be the economic impact of abolishing this quota system on the quality and the feasability of our small industry now, because of these control system we’ve been working with for more that 50 years now. Do we have the guts to get our industy off this form of protectionism and start making dairy products that would rival some of the best cheese producers of the world?

For my second point, about Islam, what scares me the most, is this caliphate wich they seem to be so eager to bring upon the whole world. Unfortunatly, this seems to be in line with many end time bible prophecies. (just a though)

Picking a fight with the Americans is an old Liberal tactic to engender an us versus them narrative. It plays well with their base.

Watching that Carrier clip where employees are told their jobs are going away is hauntingly similar to watching Rachel Notley tax the heck out of our oil industry & PMJT telling Canadians he plans to “phase out the oil sands”, with the end result being industry fleeing to other friendly jurisdictions (ie out of Canada).

“Does the Liberal gov’t even have a clue of how to grow the economy??”

No. Look at the Libtards’ track records. However they excel at inventing new taxes, increasing existing ones, and spending other peoples’ money (taxes collected).

http://www.torontosun.com/2017/04/18/our-top-tax-rate-of-535-kills-jobs
“On top of the federal income tax, all of Canada’s provinces have introduced significant personal income taxes.
The combination of high federal and provincial income tax rates has hurt Canada’s competitiveness in the global economy.
In Ontario, once you factor in personal and federal taxes, the top combined PIT rate stands at 53.5%, the second-highest rate in North America, and one of the highest rates in the developed world.”

“Pierre Trudeau was a spending fool. He was not alone in that, in the 1970s. But here’s where he was alone. No contemporary leader of an advanced industrial economy – not even the German Social Democrat Helmut Schmidt or the British socialist James Callaghan – had so little understanding as Pierre Trudeau of the private market economy. “Little understanding?” I should have said: “active animosity.””

“It wouldn’t surprise me if the 2019 Liberal re-election strategy is to pick a fight with Donald Trump.”

http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/david-frum-the-disastrous-legacy-of-pierre-trudeau
“Pierre Trudeau had little taste for the alliances and relationships he inherited in 1968. Canada had taken a lead role in creating the institutions of the postwar world, from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to the General Organization for Tariffs and Trade. Those institutions were intended in great part to contain the aggressive totalitarian regimes in the Soviet Union and China. In 1968, Canada remained a considerable military power and an important voice in the councils of the West.
Trudeau repudiated that inheritance. His spending spree did not include the military. He cut air and naval capabilities, pulled troops home from Europe, and embarked on morale-destroying reorganizations of the military services. In 1968, Canada was a serious second-tier non-nuclear military power, like Sweden or Israel. By 1984, Canada had lost its war-fighting capability: a loss made vivid when Canada had to opt out of ground combat operations in the first Gulf War of 1990-91.”

I can already see the next election. Trudeau will be gloating about how Canada has a carbon tax, and how the Americans don’t.

Maxine Bernier has a good interview on the Geoff Currier Winnipeg CJOB 680 radio show, on the topic of supply management. It is worth a listen. Look for the Wednesday April 19 podcast on stitcher.`

@ Keith Barnes

I can’t believe I watched that whole hour long video. There was some truth in it, but it was very selective, cherry picked truth.

Much of what the narrator said about the Conservatives was selective and misrepresented … i.e. lies and half truths, though much of what he said about Trudeau was correct.

Just a comment on Justin’s ill picked fight with the US. Trump will have many many axes to grind when he begins the trade war. Can anyone spell Softwood Lumber BC, or how about Oil for the Keystone XL pipeline. Prissy Justin just put our heads on the chopping block. Way to go big guy.

Trudeau & his anti oil comrades are trying their best to destroy one of our biggest industries, the oil & gas industry by rejecting crucial pipelines & approving a couple but putting a million conditions on them. Now he’s pumping up his muscles trying to be the big man by telling Trump it’s gonna cost his people more to sell their cheese in Canada. Dumb, dumb move, why would you want to antagonize the leader of a country who is our biggest trading partner. Does the Liberal gov’t even have a clue of how to grow the economy??

I think this is the subtle beginning of Trump educating Canadians on what is really happening in Canada and promoting the Conservative Party of Canada in the next election
Let’s hope the Conservatives are smart enough to recognize this.
Brick by brick.

Nothing TruDope & his gang of lunatic Libtards does is in the best interests of Canada!
Please, President Trump – come to Canada & buy -take over Alberta & Saskatchewan – give it another year and I’m sure you will get a great deal on these provinces – seeing how Nutley & Trudope are working overtime to destroy us. We are prime real-estate with much resources & lots of oil and for the most part great, hard working peoples, except for the Marxist Lieberals & NDPigger Libtards – who are lazy thieving Bolsheviks! But as history has proven – Bolsheviks don’t survive well.

Ezra, I agree with your suggestion that the Butts/Trudeau regime’s inner circle has no idea what they’re doing. During the US election campaign, everything Trudeau and his cronies did was predicated on the assumption that Trump would not win. And now that Trump is President, the Liberals are operating under the fantastic assumption that Trump will be gone before they are.
Is Justin’s crew of airheads actually stupid enough to believe that nobody in the White House can see right through them?

Only thing that Trudeau and Butts know how to run, is each others zippers.

Canada is under the control of Bugs Bunny and 11 Muslims, who get their orders from the Muslim controlled UN.

Perhaps the Rebel should organize a Referendum regarding Trudeau’s qualifications for the position of Prime Minister.

God is Not Great, is a book worth reading. When Christopher Hitchens gets to Islam, he explains how it’s mostly lifted from the Bible. Mohamed was a false prophet. He was a megalomaniac that wanted the attention for himself. Very simply, he was jealous! That it was started 600yrs later is your first clue.

Islam is a religion of war and hate. They call it the Religion of Peace because, like their Lefty brethren, they employ cheesy tactics, like the good ol’ tell-the-opposite-of-the-truth-to-lead-people-in-the-wrong-direction tactic. All Muslims are responsible for the acts of a few, as they’re in the mosques, they live with the ppl that become radicalized and are in a position to notice and to act. By holding all Muslims responsible, it forces them to act, which til now, they clearly have not. Because if all moderates acted, Al Queda and their ilk would never have gotten off the ground.

I think you’re right about Trudeau’s plan for re-election.
He’s looking to pick a fight with Trump (the old “Ugly American” strategy).
And/or pick a fight with the CPC by calling their less-than-open-borders policy “racist”, “selfish”, and “un-Canadian”.
He’ll also make Canadians fear HUGE gov’t cutbacks to control the deficit (which he created).
He will openly call CPC supporters “deplorables”.
He’ll call the CPC “warmongers” for wanting to increase military spending.
He’ll say the CPC will destroy the world by eliminating the carbon tax.
He’ll use the Ignatieff attack strategy “you’re an American!” if O’Leary wins. Call Leitch a “bigot” if she wins. And against most of the other CPC contenders, he’ll just strut his stuff to show how much “prettier” he is than they are (even prettier than the women contending).
The one thing Trudeau won’t campaign on will be his dreadful record.
commented 2017-04-19 21:18:57 -0400
- I agree, Trudeau thinks he can start a trade war with the US & them blame them for the damage to the economy Liberal policies are creating. Trudeau thinks he’s being clever but he’s truly out of his league. Unfortunately, Canadians are going to pay for this. The timing could not be worse. If Harper were still PM Canada would be in a great position to prosper. Under Trudeau Canada is facing a disaster. Next up – the softwood lumber negotiations – God help us.

- Easter is actually the holiest of Christian holidays & Islam is the most intolerant of all doctrines. 1+1=2.

- We need only look to Europe to see where Islamophobia legislation will lead us.

I hope Trump takes junior out to the wood shed and beats some sense into him. Trudeau is intentionally insulting Trump through backdoor. He’s not even man enough to talk to Trump directly. What an immature brat! Just seeing his picture makes me sick.

Since 9/11 – IN THE NAME OF ISLAM (SATAN): 33,163 Attacks, 213,417 Killed, 294,816 Injured that we know of.

As far as Trudeau picking a fight with Trump is concerned, I don’t know of anyone who regularly posts on this sight, except for the trolls, has ever accused Trudeau of being intelligent or politically astute. So this action by his government, and then his reaction to Trump’s response, is no surprise. The real surprise would come if he ever did something intelligent. In fact it would be so shocking that it could possibly trigger a kind of PTSD response, but I think we’re all pretty safe.

I was in business all my career. And I can say that, except for small local businesses maybe, most businesses in Canada have exchanges with the US, either on the supply side, or on the sales side, and many on both. There are no other 2 countries in the world so intertwined on trade. It is as easy to buy or sell in the US as it is within Canada with only a few easy add’l steps to perform. The problem is that Canada needs a lot more of the US market than the US needs us. My point is that hundreds, if not thousands, of canadian companies are dependent of the US, not only the car companies in Ontario. Trump has plenty of choices to leverage, Trudo has none.

Baby Doc is just following in Papa Doc’s footsteps. Papa Doc picked fights with Nixon and Reagan. As a result of his fights with Reagan, the economic recovery of Canada was delayed 5-10 years. However, Papa Doc and his minions were economically ok personally, it was just us peons who suffered. Papa Doc talked about the middle class to. Baby Doc, re-entrenching Papa Doc’s legacy of destruction.

Personally, I hope we reach the day where, like NZ and Australia, we can go to the dairy section and pay a reasonable price for milk plus be able to buy decent cheeses like A/NZ can due to competition, not the crap we are now forced to buy.

Trump is such a breathe of fresh air. Finally, someone who calls it what it is. Canada, with a seriously detached-from-reality ideologist at the helm, is likely to get a good spanking from the USA, and well deserved. I live in hope for common sense to return here.

Pretty friking stupid move when we are reliant on US finished goods after we decimated our own industrial capacity with tax and regulation – typical empty headed symbolic posturing from a walking dead PM and his butt plug.

Incredible!!!! How stupid Trudo is!!! His ego is so big, he is so delusional, that he feels protected with the Soros communist destroyers and with the dictators of the planet, like China, to pick a trade fight with the biggest economy of the planet. Without the US, Canada is a 2nd Mexico. And if he thinks that he can run the next election by attacking Trump America, wow he is really really fu…g crazy and we have to put him in a mental institution. Add to that trade war, terrorists in huge numbers let loose in Canada by him, and Trump will crush him and our economy in a heartbeat.
