SCOOP: Trudeau gave $1 million of your money to this left-wing comedian

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

Look at this great little website: TheCanadaGuide.com. It’s by J.J. McCullough, a contrarian conservative, writer and cartoonist.

The site is a friendly, student-oriented, multi-media guide to Canada. Hundreds of pages. And perfect timing for the 150th anniversary of Confederation. What a great resource.

You didn’t pay for it. J.J. crowdfunded it.

Now compare that to how left-wingers do "Canada 150."

Mary Walsh is a painfully unfunny comedian who retired from the CBC years ago. In the 2015 election, she did that horrific video comparing Stephen Harper to a Nazi. And she hounded Rob Ford at his home, remember?

I’ll show you her application for "Canada 150" money.

You have to hear this!

She assures her Liberal friends that this project “will be inclusive of indigenous communities, official-language minority communities and ethno-cultural communities, and will create a legacy for youth.”

The only thing was missing was a promise to have Syrian refugee children, in wheelchairs, wearing hijabs, singing a song in French and Inuktitut...

NEXT: Brian Lilley joins me to discuss this story, which The Rebel uncovered through Freedom of Information requests. You can see the documents below.

(Check out Lilley's terrific book CBC Exposed, which reveals more about what Walsh and her ilk have done with your money all these years...)

THEN: Sun columnist Anthony Furey talks about the story our own Faith Goldy has been exclusively reporting on:

The illegal border crossings into Canada that the authorities have so far been ignoring.

Drew Wakariuk,

Yes, comedy is subjective. Conservatives who create art or entertainment also get government funding.

The rest of your comment doesn’t even make sense.
commented 2017-04-23 02:47:39 -0400
Drew Wakariuk,

You were born into the CBC. It’s not some new thing. If you are not used to a National Broadcaster like England has with the BBC by now, I can’t help you.
commented 2017-04-23 02:45:02 -0400
Drew Wakariuk,

LOL,

The Rebel wishes they were VICE. They have a series on HBO and world wide acclaim. The Rebel are less than nothing by comparison.
commented 2017-04-23 02:39:44 -0400
Jack Carter go tell your subjective comment to Amy Schumer who is blaming others for her shitty special on netflix.
commented 2017-04-23 02:33:13 -0400
Jack Carter you say comedy is subjective yet you support something the opposite of subjectivity like this money being handed out, let the people who like her support her with their money. Oh sorry , you liberals talk a big game , but never have the guts to play it.
commented 2017-04-23 02:31:46 -0400
Jack Carter the CBC spews venomous hate , then of course you link to a video with tons of hate filled comments and then you try to project on the Rebel commenters like a good hypocrite.
First problem with you comment is that we are forced to pay for CBC , neither you nor any of those youtube commenters are forced to do a damn thing for the Rebel. So i guess we have a hell of a lot more basis for our displeasure. Sorry to bring up reality again.

Hyacinth,

Again, the growing discontent you speak of isn’t resulting in Canadians wanting to get rid of the CBC or to sell it like Kellie Leitch would like to do.

They just want the CBC to make improvements and that’s fair. That is completely different than what The Rebel who have you believe.
commented 2017-04-23 01:27:41 -0400
“You are the extreme minority.”

Jackie can’t dispute the fact that there is a growing discontent with the CBC and its funding so he attacks the messenger and The Rebel. LMAO, same old song and dance, no new material, shame really.
commented 2017-04-23 00:40:08 -0400
Hyacinth,

Growing discontent doesn’t even scratch the surface of the venomous hate spewed on The Rebel regarding the CBC and the laughable position that the rest of Canada feels as you do.

Could CBC be better? Sure. Everything could be better, but in NO WAY do Canadians want the CBC gone or sold.

That’s the bottom line. You are the extreme minority.
commented 2017-04-23 00:19:25 -0400
Jackie, you err in your assumptions regarding the CBC, time will prove that.

You obviously like pissing in the wind so go for it if that makes you happy, it is entertaining. There is a growing discontent, deny it all you want but it will not change that fact. As more people become informed the more the discontent will grow.

Hyacinth,

I found the sell the cbc link, but I didn’t think that was the poll and didn’t click on it, so I admit that I was wrong there. Nonetheless, the majority on a Rebel Media poll still support the existence of the CBC.

You would think with all the CBC hate around here, it would be 60% or 80% dump the CBC. They certainly did not get the results they wanted.

Here is a poll from a couple of years back:

A strong majority of Canadians want the CBC’s funding to be maintained or increased, including a majority of Conservative voters, a new Nanos Research poll.

Only 10 per cent of Canadians said they want to see the CBC’s funding cut, while 41 per cent said it should be increased and 46 per cent want it maintained.

Find me ANY poll that has support for CBC in the minority, besides a poll that only asked people in Alberta.

Poor Jackie doesn’t know how to use a search engine.

What the poll shows is that there is a growing discontent with the CBC funding as more people become informed.

“Here is the actual question:
SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT THE CBC SHOULD BE SOLD TO SAVE TAXPAYERS $1 BILLION PER YEAR, WHILE OTHER PEOPLE SAY THE CBC SHOULD KEEP BEING SUBSIDIZED BECAUSE IT IS AN IMPORTANT NATIONAL CULTURAL INSTITUTION.
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS IS CLOSEST TO YOUR OWN POINT OF VIEW?
  • SELL THE CBC, AND SAVE TAXPAYERS’ MONEY
  • KEEP SUBSIDIZING THE CBC, AND GIVE THEM EVEN MORE MONEY

What did Canadians tell us?

They said they were divided. While 52% said keep CBC and give them more money – and we asked that because that is what Justin Trudeau and Tom Mulcair are promising this election – I was shocked to see that 48% now say sell CBC.

I’ve been at this a long time. I actually wrote the book on CBC failures and laid out the case for selling them in CBC Exposed.

But I’ve never seen support as high as 48%.

When I first asked a pollster to ask Canadians about this, just 33% wanted CBC sold. In 2014, Abacus Data polled for me again and it was up to 45%. Now it is 48%."

liza Rosie,

You have nothing. The argument you are trying to make has enough holes in it to drive a truck through.

Again, The Rebel deleted their CBC poll. Why is that?

“Take the case of Pierre Juneau, a long-time Trudeau friend. In 1968, Juneau became the first chairman of the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC), where he led Trudeau’s mission to increase Canadian content over the airwaves. Trudeau brought Juneau into his cabinet in 1975 as minister of communications before winning a seat in the House of Commons. Trudeau opened up a riding for Juneau by appointing the member from Hochelaga, Gerald Pelletier, to become Canada’s ambassador to France. But Juneau lost what was considered a safe seat in the by-election and was forced to leave cabinet. Juneau then moved into the public service as undersecretary of state. In 1980, he became deputy minister of communications, and in 1982, the president of the CBC. "

liza Rosie,

Fuck, you are dumb.

Even the most successful companies still have layoffs and I have already acknowledged that the TV portion of CBC is not as successful as CBC online, which is THE NUMBER ONE NEWS SOURCE IN CANADA.

Newsflash – TV is dying and people prefer to stream, view online, etc.

Funny enough, The Rebel deleted their CBC poll as I can’t find it now to prove to you that even when The Rebel asked, the majority of Canadians support the CBC. Clearly The Rebel didn’t get the results they were expecting and they were wrong just as you are.

Drew Wakariuk,

The Rebel can’t even beat boring as fuck Macleans in web traffic.

Drew Wakariuk,

5 million homes is a lot of fucking TV’s in an ENTIRE COUNTRY that has less people than the state of California.

NO ONE WAS WATCHING in those 5 million homes with multiple TV’s.

End of story.

Drew Wakariuk,

Because they are not a private company and were set up as a National Broadcaster from the get go. Duh. The BBC is incredibly popular too, but they are funded by the government. Do you understand how that model works, dummy?

Harper was in power for year – why didn’t he dump the CBC. Serious question. Did he know that he would receive a negative backlash and it would impact him getting re-elected?

liza Rosie,

I do not work for the CBC, but I do work in the entertainment industry and know how the CBC works, I understand the importance of the CBC and just in general – I have knowledge of all the funding grants in Canada that have been implemented by both liberal and conservatives governments.

I also understand that CBC is the biggest news source in Canada, something that you don’t seem to understand or want to accept. Nothing is dwindling with the CBC and you are confusing the lack of interest in TV in general compared to online and streaming as proof that CBC is dying.

Again, CBC is the most popular news website in Canada. MANY millions of people go there every single day. Nobody comes here by comparison, because there is no demand for The Rebel’s content outside of Alberta for the most part – which makes sense because Alberta is Canada’s Texas. Ezra wouldn’t even a career in Canada if Alberta didn’t exist.
commented 2017-04-22 18:10:04 -0400
Jack Carter did you know the OKA crisis was due to Chretin stealing native land for a golf course for him and his cronies to build a golf course? Did the CBC not report the truth to you?
commented 2017-04-22 18:08:02 -0400
Jack Carter if the CBC is so great and so well consumed then why the hell do they need over a billion a year , how about the people who want to pay for it? You say there are so many, then they should be self sustaining. Oh yeah , you are full of shit. LMAO! Now go carry some terrorists luggage like a good left wing fool.
commented 2017-04-22 18:05:07 -0400
Jack Carter if the Rebel got a billion a year to pay for elevated links and ads they would get higher numbers than CBC , but of course you are too dense to get that. And people are forced to support the other news channels by the CRTC on their cable bill , Sun news was wanted by many who could not get it, and they were not given a fair shot as the left was scared of that , just like you are. Give people a choice and see what they want.
commented 2017-04-22 17:59:25 -0400
Jack Carter you learn to read , i read the study you did not moron. They did not support the CBC as is , they supported a state broadcaster serving the WHOLE country moron. Sorry did i make you face reality again LMAO? And i will explain once again , give the Rebel the money to buy google ad preference and they would have more hits than CBC , but of course you are too brainwashed to get that.

Troll Carter speaks for all Canadians we should listen to him. The abuses have been going on for around 35 or so years ever since the first Trudeau was PM. that’s about right but no less offensive. Clearly you work for the cbc. That has been clear since you first started trolling the Rebel under your first moniker, which I think was Sean Penson but it could have been Jimmy Da’Sylva, but I could be missing the very first one. The cbc is lucky to have such an advocate because their support numbers are dwindling daily, even more now that they have someone to shine some light on their backdoor dealings with the government as well as give them some competition.

Those silly sites you pull up are a testament to the serious threat the Rebel poses to the status quo. It does not hurt the Rebel, it’s free advertising and good for a laugh that is for sure. It can only help our numbers.

Keep up the cbc loyalty drive Jack, they desperately need supporters like you. I will continue to look forward to a PM who will put those parasites in the cbc industry in Canada, in their places and make them stand on their own two feet with content people want or go the way of the dodo bird. More and more Canadians are becoming fed up. I hope there are more abuses during Trudeau’s stay in power it will only help us with the final push.
