What last night’s by-elections reveal about the state of Canada’s parties

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

Five by-elections last night: Stephen Harper and Jason Kenney’s old ridings in Calgary were up, as well as the Markham-Thornhill riding in the Greater Toronto area, where John McCallum was from, until he was appointed Trudeau’s ambassador to China.

The last two ridings were in Ottawa Vanier, where Liberal Mauril Belanger passed away, where Stephane Dion was the MP until he was sent away by Trudeau, too, to become the new ambassador to the European Union.

First, I should tell you, there were no upsets:

The Conservatives won the two western ridings, and the Liberals won the three ridings in Ontario and Quebec. So the balance of Parliament remains the same.

But when you drill down on the results, it’s revealing.

I’m shocked that the Liberal lead in the Toronto area was cut in half in this media environment, aren’t you?

Trudeau did worse last night than he did last time. Conservatives did better. And the NDP isn’t in the game.

I like how that looks...

NEXT: Tom Harris of the International Climate Science Coalition joins me to talk about President Trump's decision to pull the U.S. out of climate agreements, which means Canada is getting left behind as a result.

THEN: New Rebel contributor Eric Duhaime and I discuss an exciting new development:

The French-language Rebel website!

FINALLY: I read your messages to me!

- The NDP has really become irrelevant as the Liberals moved further to the left. I’d guess the Conservatives could have caused an upset or two in these by-elections if they had strong leadership in place.

- Canada isn’t leading the world anywhere when it comes to the climate or green energy. Places that once embraced such things have had to reverse course. Canada has gotten to the party late on this one, everyone’s packing up & going home.

- Great to see the Rebel expanding in Canada & around the world.

Would Eric Duhaime be willing to chat with you regularly to let english Canada know what’s going on in his efforts and general info on the state of his version of Rebel? I, for one, would love to hear something of a progress report now and again. Just to give me some hope.

Great show, Ezra, loved that suit, shirt and tie combo, well done. McKenna makes me sick, she wants to pave a trail through Jasper Park, signed the petition against it. She’s an idiot puppet with eco green leanings. Eric Duhaime gives me hope that Quebec is not totally a cesspit of liberal socialism but more like the rest of Canada. I was disappointed with the bi-election results. It appears that 3 eastern ridings don’t mind the billions of dollars of debt we will continue to incur, nor the constant rummaging around in our pockets for one more loonie.

Separatist federal party in the west has been officially registered with Elections Canada. I believe the party is called Alliance of the North which comprises all 4 of the western provinces. They are now trying to get registered as a provincial party in Alberta which I think means they need to get 8000 signatures on a petition before an established cut off date. If interested, here is a facebook page to get started.

Correct me if I am wrong. But shouldn’t Harper’s riding belong to Ezra?

And by the way Glen… I haven’t insulted you yet unless you consider the truth an insult..
commented 2017-04-04 23:44:15 -0400
That’s it Glen… You keep telling us what we can’t do. Negativity will win the day if you go on complaining about what can or can’t be done.!! You sound like the advisor to the king or queen back in the day where he says “everything is impossible”and hardly worth the effort… Let’s just maintain the status quo because that’s what I’m comfortable with.!
Maybe you are content to live with the gentle rubs from the laurentian elites but we born in the west are not.!!
Or maybe you’re afraid that your provincial welfare will cease and your relatives back home will actually have to work for a living and won’t or can’t send you your allowance anymore.
If you do not support western separation then either please move back to where you came from or better yet stay the hell out of the way, but please stop, cease and desist in your efforts of trying to convince the undecided that it’s the wrong thing to do or can’t be done.!!
I would sooner separate from the central dictatorship than to suffer 4, 8 or 12 more years of a government who is hell-bent on changing the face the convictions and the demographics of the true North strong and free..!!
Or does that not mean anything to you.!!

Many good things happening at The Rebel, new journalists in Australia, Washington and Eric in Quebec who may take a trip to France to check on Le pen and the important election with freedom at stake.
The bad news, as reported by Stefan Molyneau last week is the left is working overtime trying to censor the very silent majority. He claims that the left is approaching large Social Media Advertisers and suggesting their product does not look good on (Example) Facebook when the advertising runs beside Racist programs like Stefan’s or The Rebel. Everyone knows these programs are not racist, however some advertisers may put pressure on Facebook or Twitter to drop programs like this.
The left owns TV and newspapers, so it is coming to the Internet.
The answer would be to come up with a device designed for the center and right minded people in the western world that would not cave in to censorship. If something isn’t done, thousands of internet companies could be cut off of Social Media and therefore be out of business.

Ivanka probably looked at Junior thinking " how did this chump become a national leader"

I felt eased by the tone of this program. There was optimism about the Liberals decline at the byelection polls, a few laughs at the airhead McKenna’s expense and I really enjoyed the interview with Eric Duhaime. I was down on Quebec because of the last election but Eric reminded us that there are many sane Quebeckers. With their help maybe, just maybe, we can extirpate the odious Trudeau regime and Canada “may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands” to quote Churchill.

@Leviticus 2013…..I and others have considered it…it is absurd….not really worthy of any further consideration…..and if personal insults are all you have in reply….good luck with your project.

Getting a tory government in Alberta might be a good starting point. But you haven’t been doing very well on that lately. Let me assure you the NDP will never table any such proposal….I doubt that the tory’s will either…so you have to start up a provincial and a federal separatist party.

I don’t think you have a snowball’s chance in Hell….BTW my great grand father was the executive secretary of the Nova Scotia Separatist Party just prior to confederation.

And most importantly on the topic of right speech……IF YOUR VOWS ARE NOT SACRED THEN NOTHING IS.
commented 2017-04-04 22:07:12 -0400
Seperation of east from west must be considered..!!

A much misunderstood aspect of buddhism is that “right speech” does not mean avoiding offence in what is said.

Do not knowingly deceive

Do not spread rumours or false witness against your neighbour

Speak the truth as your heart speaks it to you and with confidence and your words will have power

Contrary to common misconception…BULLSHIT IS NOT HARMLESS…you must never speak it nor suffer it to be spoken unchallenged.

Great laughs. Eric, I have friends in fortierville and they’re not lazy slobs either. They are looking for you but get huff post.
Keep it up, we’re swinging. All the medias exposed. Sweat and Hold your breath for a couple more years and this will be over.
No one can be stupid enough to vote for this again, can they?
Worst government in history

ERIC DUHAIME ! , you are going to seriously change the voting habits of Quebec by next election — thanks for teaming up with the REBEL

That look Ivanka Trump gave TruDope was not a look of being “smitten” – it was a look of absolute wonder – wondering how a good looking dude could be so f**kin ignorant & stupid!! Ivanka’s IQ is quite likely 150% of the lunatic Spud!

As for that Barb McKenna – the BJ queen of the Lieberal party – her “global train” is getting longer! (tongue in cheek) …if she were to be hit in the chin – TruDope would be instantly circumcised!

Good stuff on the show, but I just have to mention something really minor.

In the video of Hoffman calling Albertans sewer rats, and I always liked muskrats, there is an MLA to her upper right yawning. On top of that, another MLA hands him a glass of water. I never noticed that before, and had one of the greatest private laughs ever.

If I were a Provincial Dipper in Alberta and I saw the 2.5 and 2.9 per cent share of the vote for the NDP in the two Federal by-elections, I’d be dusting off my CV and be starting to check the employment want ads.
The results in Thornhill-Markham are indeed encouraging.

The fact CPC retained the seats and gained vote count in a leaderless political environment tells us a lot and it’s positive. I think CPC can attract enough votes to upset Trudeau next election withe the right leader and platform – do a jobs and economy campaign after selfie and Wynn have bottomed out eastern productivity with crappy paying McJobs, and I can see Trudeau going down – sent to opposition seats by Millennials whose future he has robbed.

I wonder how late that liberal victory party ran? LMAO!
