YouTube’s new censorship rules target The Rebel: But we have a plan — and you can help

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

We have more than 850,000 YouTube subscribers. That makes us one of the biggest YouTube news channels in the world — by far the biggest in Canada.

But YouTube released a new policy this week.

It’s “an update to fight terror content online,” and while it starts out talking about terrorism, it quickly moves on to what YouTube calls “controversial” ideas.

Well, all our content at The Rebel is “controversial,” especially to thin-skinned whiners on the left.

Here’s more from the YouTube announcement:

“[W]e have begun working with more than 15 additional expert NGOs and institutions (…) including the Anti-Defamation League, the No Hate Speech Movement, and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. These organizations bring expert knowledge of complex issues like hate speech.”

The ADL has already fingered us, remember? Their recent report on the "alt-right" named The Rebel three times.

So do you think we have a few months left on YouTube? Maybe a few days?

I’m certain it’s coming. That's why I’ve got a plan:

We’re going to build a free app.

This software application will let you watch The Rebel on your smart phone — iPhone or Android — your laptop, or smart TV, like Roku or Apple TV.

Among many other features, it will also have all our TV shows behind the paywall. (We’re launching NEW premium shows after Labour Day, so the timing is perfect.)

Most importantly, we’ll own this app outright, so no one like Youtube can have power over us.

And no one can have that power over you, and what you watch.

But we don’t have the budget to build this app on our own.

That’s why we need your help.

Developing the app is going to cost us a lot of money. You can read the breakdown of our budget at TheyCantStopUs.com.

But in short, the total is $302,000. That's the biggest expense we’ve ever had at The Rebel.

By the way, that's also what the CBC spends, of your tax dollars, in only one hour and 45 minutes. I did the math.

And if we were the CBC, we would just take your money from your taxes — $1.5 billion a year. We can’t. We’re 100 per cent reliant on our viewers. Which is why we are so careful with our spending, and so attentive to what people want to hear.

And that’s precisely why they want to stop us.

We know we can raise this money with your help:

To get the breakdown of our $302,000 budget, and learn about the perks for donors, go to TheyCantStopUs.com.

Please help The Rebel live — and thrive. Thank you!

NEXT: The Rebel's Faith Goldy and I talk more about YouTube censorship, and why The Rebel needs to build this app so we can keep bringing you the other side of the story.

THEN: Our own Tommy Robinson comes on to talk about his new book Mohammed's Koran, which shot to the #1 spot at Amazon.co.uk, and is a bestseller on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca too.

We need to make those who are trying to steal our right to hear and make up our own minds pay a price and guard against any further aggressions.

More on Dinesh D’Souza’s Facebook Page being hacked. this happened two days after his book,

I think this is a war that has to be fought on many fronts. I think this is a great idea and I still think we need to make alliances internationally as well as nationally with other conservatives and pool our energy, money, information, and legal resources to help each other. United we stand.

Daryl Herman,

How are the CBC and other media not transparent per their funding? I have complete understanding that the Canadian media and entertainment industries get government funding. Pretty much everything arts related get some kind of funding, because we are not America and don’t have a bottomless pit of money for Canadian arts, culture, entertainment and media.

Where have you been for the last 40 years?

Peter Netterville,

Transparency should be for all – regardless if they intend to donate or not.

Online commentators like conservative David Horowitz (his parents were once card carrying communists) and Dinesh D’Souza have been telling us for some time that the Left who own the media, universities, Hollywood, the MSM, and the Liberal/Democratic parties won’t be defeated until conservatives start to take back that space. Instead of flagging comments online, contacting the CBC to object if they call Rebel Media, Alt-right (Press Progress did this in May of this year) we pretty much spend our time complaining about the Left. Alt-right refers to those who reject mainstream conservatism in favour of white nationalism. Basically, these are groups like AltRight.com, IDENTITY EVROPA, and American Renaissance, all of which discriminate against non-white people. To call the Rebel, alt-right is ludicrous. Jordan Peterson is doing his part, trying to rid the universities of Postmodern and Marxist courses.

We should be more pro-active as Daryl Herman suggested in a comment below, “As for YouTube – we all need to start flagging the Lieberal messages out there that are truly hateful, like those Imams declaring WAR on us normal people in the Western world.” A couple of weeks ago, CBC did a biased radio interview of Hope Not Hate, a UK group that is for unlimited immigration to Europe. There are many other similar groups, posting on YouTube.

What BRAVO said

EZRA Will come on every night and explain things from time to time
He will also have tech experts to explain
If the REBEL shares its platform, there will only be disagreements down the wire , humans after all
commented 2017-08-03 09:01:26 -0400
Some suggest the new platform is offered to other conservatives. I totally agree, and I’m sure it’s in the back of Ezra’s mind. He’s a smart cookie. One step at a time. It’ll take a big effort to get this done, then he can turn his attention to that. The only exception being, Jordan Peterson might toss in from the get-go.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to see PragerU as a client? They have enough dough to toss in from the get-go too if desired.

To the naysayers. If Amazon apps and others block him, he can offer the app directly from his own servers. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

Only a matter of time before the police come for all of us conservative thinking people. The free world is leaning fast to becoming like Stalin ism or Nazi ism and a little Fascist ism tossed in. How long 10 years or so when they start arresting people in the night. And you simply disappear …
commented 2017-08-03 08:22:47 -0400
I do not think Ezra is paranoid – I think he is being realistic.

There is little doubt that the Rebel is the next Canadian target.

After all a free speech proponent from Toronto was just shut down as can be seen on the Rebel.

Quite frankly I am wondering when the hackers will start hitting the Rebel – it is coming as well.

YOU who want the truth are evil to the left – you wait and see!
commented 2017-08-03 02:51:23 -0400
I think Ezra is being paranoid in thinking that the rebel will be pulled from you tube. What is more likely to happen, is for you tube to put some mature content warning at the beginning of the video. You tube still wants people to view videos, as it makes them money.

If Google censorship is the problem, then an app will not fix anything. Google and Apple have both pulled apps off their operating systems. Remember all those Flappy Bird clones? Both Google and Apple put an end to those clones. Now imagine if Ezra got the rebel app running, and then it got pulled from mobile devices. If that happens, then that is a lot of wasted dollars.

This app is not worth the money. The rebel would get farther spending that money on the save Tommy campaigns, or all those times Ezra is getting hauled off to court by that guy who is harassing his old lady next door neighbor.

And one more thing to consider. You tube pays Ezra money for all the ads that are on the videos. If people watch the videos on the app instead of on you tube, wouldn’t the rebel lose out on the you tube ad revenue?

This app is going to backfire.

Funny how people like Jimmy wanted Hillary to win then they cry that Ezra is somehow corrupt. LMAO!
commented 2017-08-03 01:23:10 -0400
Jimmy Reece become a contributing member and you get details. I told you that before. Since you are just a whiner and give nothing , you get no update. What part of that don’t you get?
commented 2017-08-03 01:21:11 -0400
Jimmy Reece how about you admit that if the left was not so fascist then this would not be needed. Or do you like totalitarianism and free speech only for some?
commented 2017-08-03 01:19:43 -0400
Jimmy Reece how much money have you stolen from others?
commented 2017-08-03 01:06:41 -0400
@ Jimmy Reece said, "Here we go again – give us money with no real transparency. "

You wouldn’t recognize TRANSPARENCY if it bitch slapped you on the nose!!
Maybe start demanding the CBC & CTV peoples to be transparent – they steel our $$$ and then tell us to mind our own business!
FFS – Listen & Watch the video again & again until transparency reveals itself to you – you dumb c**t!!
I’m beginning to think this Jimmy Reece is Gerald Butts! or Gerald’s knobber.
commented 2017-08-03 00:36:08 -0400
Yes! Ezra. Great idea!
Been watching RT & Breibart through an App for quite some time. I know of major events – within minutes of them happening, as long as I am within “service”. Adds could be sold to Conservative (normal peoples) advertising their businesses & ventures – like farmers selling their crops, builders selling their buildings, etc, etc. Lot’s of truly “ethical” businesses out there!!
Maybe Pamela Geller (my day starts with Pam’s email!!) and many of the other “warriors” could be part of this effort.
The Trump Train is getting longer every day! Intercontinental! …proving Conservatives are a lot smarter than the loony Lieberals!! Let’s destroy them through their own arrogant ignorance.

Well, as for YouTube – we all need to start flagging the Lieberal messages out there that are truly hateful, like those Imams declaring WAR on us normal people in the Western world. Or those of the ’butt" foundation imposing these liberty killing actions.

If of The Rebel’s 850,000 You Tube subscribers, we each gave $1, that would easily meet the target but we know not all will donate but if 10% give $5, Ezra still makes the target.

Did we not all see this coming…..if the left cannot win an argument and there are almost none they can, the next move is to shut down opposing voices. We now have Trudeau’s soft Fascism in play.

Al Gore can’t push his climate change myth on science so he is now tying resistance to ‘climate change’ to the same kind of resistance that was in place in the mid 1960’s civil rights movement, a movement by the way, which was opposed by Democrats. So if you cannot win a science debate, erroneously but intentionally tie your hoax to a real moral issue….dishonest Al Gore, flying around in his charter / private jets from one mansion on the west coast to another one on the east and then the two in between.

Space Moose said, “The proposed app won’t fix anything if Google bans the rebel on you tube.”

He is building his own server and moving his videos off of YouTube.

Space Moose said, “Don’t forget Google owns Android.”

It is one thing to disable an account on YouTube and quite another for Google to write into the Android Operating System a block stopping specific apps from being installed. I don’t think they would go to that extreme as to alter the OS to spite The Rebel.

Space Moose said, "So if you donate with the good intention on getting around Google or Apple, then you are just wasting your money. "

I don’t agree. They do not own the Internet, only some of the more popular social media sites, and device operating systems. Anyways, there is still the computer and tablet PCs.
commented 2017-08-02 23:56:56 -0400
I’d rather invest in a killer lawsuit to bring youtube down than watch it be sanitized by Left wing McCarthyism.

Sean Lance said, “Hey Ezra why not make the Rebel a hosting site for all conservative content creators.”

Ezra, Sean Lance has a point here. If you are building a large server and leasing a fiber for large band width, then going the route of hosting for other sites may be a way of generating income.
commented 2017-08-02 23:45:08 -0400
Jimmy Reece said, "Here we go again – give us money with no real transparency. "

Jimmy, since you have no intention of donating, then it is absolutely none of your business. The people that donate can make up their mind for themselves.

Not sure why you would even make a comment on it except to be a shit disturber.

Let’s do this. Eventually we will get our money back when the CBC is defunded but we can’t continue with the status quo. Let’s raise the $302,000.
commented 2017-08-02 23:17:59 -0400
Good thinking, Ezra!
commented 2017-08-02 23:03:24 -0400
sent money to the Rebel and CBC, the later wasn’t by choice or free will

Glenn, I just realized that I forgot to include that in no way am I calling you a hacker.

Your IT expertise can really help, and your offer is appreciated. Thank you.
commented 2017-08-02 22:32:38 -0400
Glenn Craig, that’s fantastic.

I was just thinking about how I could word an appeal to a white hat hacker to help with a truly independent platform to host Rebel Media; and possibly other conservative voices youtube will shut down.
commented 2017-08-02 22:26:27 -0400
Ezra, I and others who support theREBEL could also help in this manner….I am a retired government IT project worker. I have worked on developement projects . I am familiar with the process. I would be more than willing to do beta testing and submitting trouble shooting tickets. You have my e-mail address.

Anne Applebaum wrote a guest column in Sunday’s National Post about ‘bot trolls’ keying on certain phrases from sites and then responding as a troll would in a large series of posts, or register a large number of complaints with the host to shut down the site. Hence where the mobbing comes from on the net.

Certainly a timely article considering Dr. Peterson being shut down the day after the article was published, and tonight’s topic.
