(Jerry Agar guest hosts for Ezra Levant tonight...) The Ontario Liberals are going to hike the minimum wage by 32 per cent in 18 months. How are businesses reacting?
One restaurateur told me:
“I will likely not go out of business because of the minimum wage. But I will change my practices drastically and the losers will be students who cannot find part time work, the government who will receive less taxes (and CPP, EI), and again the government who will likely see a lot of other businesses have people working under the table…”
This man’s letter demonstrated the pain he feels, having to make decisions like this. He is far from the greedy, uncaring entrepreneur so many people portray employers to be.
The truly self-interested are those in government who will do and say anything to get re-elected.
One paid apologist for the Liberals actually told me on the radio that, “40 per cent of working people in Ontario are earning at or below minimum wage.”
That is shockingly untrue.
Statistics Canada says as of 2014, 10.9 per cent of Ontarians earned minimum wage, and most were high school and university students.
Kathleen Wynne is counting on people who do not own businesses, who never met a payroll, to make themselves feel morally superior because they support a so-called fair wage...
NEXT: Al Gore is back with a sequel to his junk science "documentary" An Inconvenient Truth.
This movie is bombing at the box office — have people finally had it with Gore's blatant hypocrisy?
Not everyone: An influential American magazine insists that Gore's "carbon footprint" "doesn't matter." WATCH as I debunk their argument about "carbon offsets."
TONIGHT'S GUESTS: Progressive Conservative Energy Critic Todd Smith explains why the liberals are overpaying on their new hydro deal; then Claudia Rosett, Senior Fellow at the Independent Women's Forum, tells us what's really going on between the U.S. and North Korea.
