Kevin Johnston is an independent citizen journalist from Mississauga who runs FreedomReport.ca. This week he was arrested at his home, handcuffed, put in the back of a patrol car, taken to jail, and charged with a crime:
Section 319(2) of the Criminal Code — “wilful promotion of hatred”.
That’s not a real crime of course. Hate is a normal human emotion; you can’t simply ban it.
So what did Kevin Johnston do or say?
There’s a publication ban over some of the facts.
However, I sat down with Kevin Johnston to ask him about the things he was allowed to talk about:
His arrest, the deletion of his Twitter and YouTube accounts, how he’ll pay his legal fees, and more.
I also talk about Johnston’s chances of winning, and the difference between my fight with the Human Rights Commissions ten years ago, and what he is facing today.
And I can’t help but think:
How long until the police come to my house, to handcuff me in front of my wife and kids, for what I say on TV?
