SPECIAL! At the Conservative Party convention with Kevin O'Leary, Jason Kenney and more!

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

Who should the Conservative Party listen to for advice on who it should become? My rule of thumb is: whatever the Globe and Mail’s editorial page says, and whatever the CBC says, is probably wrong.

Don’t laugh — I see it already here at the Convention, in the policy debates — the media is encouraging the conservatives not only to drop conservative views, but drop an oppositional tone. The Liberals want Conservatives to do the same thing.

Conservatives will be tempted to choose a shallow Kardashian leader and Liberal-lite policies. But Canada needs a conservative party. And we need a conservative media, or at least one that gives the conservatives a fair shot.

NEXT: I’m joined by “Mr. Wonderful” himself, Kevin O’Leary, and ask the question on everyone’s mind: Will he run? And if so, what will his policies be?

THEN: Brian Lilley interviews Kellie Leitch and Michael Chong on their leadership races.

PLUS: Jason Kenney and I talk about the many challenges the Conservative Party faces ahead of next election three and half years from now.

O’Leary is not Trump. I like Trump.

A message to Conservative delegates – be Conservative or be gone. Great interviews.

Liza Rosie – and Tim’s head is likely spinning around like Linda Blair’s, in The Exorcist!

The moron prize is all yours Tim. Go projectile vomit somewhere else.

The Conservatives need to stay strong & heed their moral values. I won’t vote for a party who will relinquish their stance because it might make them more popular with the left. Stand firm on their principles & make their position clear is what I expect.
Kellie Lietch just doesn’t do it for me, I thought her responses were kind of lame. Out of the four, I liked O’Leary the best, he seemed to have the most passion & being a business man, he has a load of experience to contribute. It’s too early yet to judge, bring on the contenders.

Ezra opened the show asking who the Conservative Party of Canada should listen to? Certainly not the liberal media as he points out. And certainly not an arrogant self-important celebrity who relishes the idea of being a “kingmaker” should he not be a candidate!
What happened to the notion that the party is responsive to its grassroots? I fear that is an illusion and it has become top down shaped by its so-called movers and shakers. We have interim leader Ambrose doing her best to reshape the party into the ‘Progressive’ Conservative Party, an oxymoron if there ever was one considering the current understanding of progressive. I attended a local CPC EDA meeting when they voted on their10 delegates for the National Convention. When I arrived at the meeting there was a list of 10, only 10, people who were to be the delegates. The fellow running that portion of the meeting (not from the riding) asked those candidates present to say a few words about themselves in a minute or two, which yielded mainly the usual motherhood statements, for example, they were active campaigning, door to door, etc. Afterwards, I asked if I could ask the candidates present a question and he responded that he could not allow it according to the bylaws! I wanted to ask their stand on a certain topic that might come up for a vote at the convention. I checked the bylaws there was nothing prohibiting a question being asked. Thus he made his own rule.

So let me understand, Chong is okay with imposing a carbon tax (to fight an illusionary problem of man-made global warming) and then use those tax dollars to cut income tax!. .???
commented 2016-05-28 18:12:46 -0400
I do agree with the comments that the Conservatives have to go back to their grassroots.

Great show Ezra, I look forward to watching all the interviews in full. I look forward to seeing more shows like this one.

You and the Rebel have become giants in the Canadian media,, my hats off to everyone at the Rebel.

I don’t want to hear, ’ likeable, helpful, inclusive, sunny’. I want to hear that our house is going to be put back in order and that Conservatives need to remember who they are and where they came from, NOT that they need to ‘soften up’ to be more palatable.
commented 2016-05-28 14:56:25 -0400
I do agree with Kenny that this should not be dragged out for too long, and the real business at hand is taking Justin to task for every move he makes. Justin must be kept in line by a strong opposition, and dallying too long at the fair is just what the Liberals want.
commented 2016-05-28 14:53:26 -0400
You asked some really good questions Ezra, the answers were very revealing. Really helps in getting a picture of what the individual candidates stand for. I agree that the worry is, will the Conservatives get just a bit too sunny. Rona Ambrose is okay, but she could be giving it to the Liberals a lot harder than she does. All of them could for that matter.
Michael Chong made comments on having to bite the bullet and accept the carbon tax. Then suggesting it may be a way to lower income tax. It made my skin crawl.
All of them made noises about being more likeable, helpful, inclusive, sunny. Even Kenny made some worrisome comments about being less combative and is also just a little too ‘open doors’ for me. I personally don’t trust O’Leary as far as I could throw him.
As far as I’m concerned…… next!

There are no female cons who fit the bill for me. I want to see some big testicles and Kelly Leitch doesn’t look like Margaret Thatcher to me.

Karen Morse commented 2 hours ago " Just because someone lives a celibate lifestyle does not make them a sodomite. Jesus Christ lived a celibate lifestyle"

I would give some credence to the theories that he’s gay. Whether he’s acted on those impulses is another matter entirely, he seems to be one of those unfortunate souls who is stuck in the gap between what his religion says and who he actually is.

That being said, it’s not relevant to his capacity to govern. His politics are fair game, but he deserves to be respected for his life choices.

Ezra to add notoriety and a touch of éclat to the Conservative leadership campaign lets convince Sarah Elisabeth Coyne to throw her hat into the fray. Thee-hee-heee-heeeee !

Speaking of hugs ……..
Obama’s hug of Hiroshima survivor was……. ACKWARD . Obama’s lame attempt at a man hug needed the expertise of our Uber-Feminist,JUST-IN. Now those are hugs , here-a-hug , there-a-hug , everywhere a hug-hug ……JUST-IN hugs like he means it and wants to leave a lasting impression , one requiring the hugee to have their clothes repressed.
commented 2016-05-28 11:17:23 -0400
JUST-IN’s broadcast that he’s a "feminist’ is an absolute progressive obligation, he simply has no choice. He is in dire need of sister-hood creds, his current, wealthy, privileged, pale-face, cisgender male credentials are reviled in the sewage-holding tank he struts in . So JUST-IN identifies as full-fledged ‘feminist’ . The sensitive man, he feels like a womyn persona . The tenderer-than-thou collectivistic regimenting love with a female hug , with which the modern world is being swept, is a required obsession .
JUST-IN revels in his superiority to others based on his magic ultra-feminist sensitivity , virtue-signaling at every opportunity his conspicuous & copious female compassion {mimicking Sophie’s sweet mannerisms } , his devotion to the progressives’ anointed victims coupled with his politics of identity, is creating a nation of ‘special-victims ’ and to that he is pledging to solve all society’s ills only as a womyn could.

It is important to remember “Mark Steyn’s famous axiom” that life is too short to spend one’s time waiting for the opportunity to elect the right person to power to do the right thing. It is much more productive to organize at the grassroots level on up to make the wrong person in power do the right thing in the meantime. It is also instructive to remember that people like Mike Harris and Bill Clinton “got their chance at leadership” because all “the smart people who could have easily grabbed the position knew” any campaign against a formidable incumbent like Peterson or Bush was a hopeless task.

I would support any candidate who openly declares without any weasel words they are:
against anti global warming scam nonsense
against anti carbon tax scam nonsense
strongly pro free speech and opposed to lefty PC.

Given the fact the above items would take a miracle, Maxime Bernier seems to be the biggest irritant to inflict on Trudeau for the duration. This would be a good thing. People tend to forget that by the time Trudeau pere left office he was the most hated man in Canada. And for good reason. Anyone could have beaten him at that stage. Even Joe Clark.
commented 2016-05-28 10:57:17 -0400
I would absolutely love to see Ezra run in Harper’s seat. I would love to see Ezra run for leader of the Conservative party. Then Trudeau would not be able to ignore what he has to say.

what do you mean about Ezra getting the boot? Anonymous.

Lisa, what is your definition of a “nationalist conservative”?

When did Kenney let in a million Muslims for his political gain? Let us see some facts here. Just because someone lives a celibate lifestyle does not make them a sodomite. Jesus Christ lived a celibate lifestyle. Since I recommitted my life to the Lord I have been living a celibate lifestyle and I have never been happier. Your comments about Kenney are absolutely disgusting.
commented 2016-05-28 10:03:43 -0400
I’m hoping that a real nationalist, conservative will emerge, to leader the party. Haven’t seen that yet.
commented 2016-05-28 08:28:42 -0400
I like Jason Kenney and Peter Mackay and Maxine Bernier and Tony Clement. Obvioiusly each of them have something someone might complain about from looks to policy to performance but not every aspect of their lives affects their ability to lead.

I don’t like Kevin O’leary. I think he is “in it for himself” would piss on you in business and sees the world wrongly. That will definitely affect how he would run Gov’t, it would affect what policy he would do. Like Trump he is a big mouth and will do and say things that are basically manipulative at your expense.

I like Tony Clement cause I think he is generally a nice guy and thinks like normal people. I like Kenney cause he seems to be principled and upstanding and Max cause he wants to get rid of the peskyness of Gov’t. And I like Peter cause he is faithful and willing to get into things to make things better.

I am upset that the conservatives are playing around with Gay Marriage, if they adopt it into their platform, I will never vote that conservative party again, and will actively campaign against it, no mater the leader. I have morals, if someone is a perv, let them keep that to themselves, don’t destroy the sanctity of marriage, it has enough challenges on its own. We should focus on rescuing relationships not forwarding perverted ones.
commented 2016-05-28 06:52:58 -0400
my vote is for Jason Kenney if he runs. maybe move to U.S.A if Trump gets in till next election :)

Hahahahahaha. The media and the Liberals want the Conservatives to drop the oppositional tone. That’s priceless coming from people who spread hysteria, fear and pure hatred during the last election. They only won because they scared too many people into staying home. That fear they spawned is going to turn around bite them hard. “Oppositional tone” Ha! disagreement with a lefty = bullying, even when we’re talking about government.
