The Rebel didn’t have the organizational strength to cover the UN’s Paris climate conference last year, but now we’re bigger, and we’ve done some foreign reporting, so we thought: Let’s do it this year, and go to the UN climate conference in Marrakech.
We would crowdfund plane tickets and hotel rooms and send Sheila Gunn Reid, our Alberta bureau chief, plus a producer and cameraman.
Along with three thousand other journalists, we applied for media accreditation.
And we have been rejected.
The UN’s weaselly excuse? We are “advocacy journalists.”
We can’t go because we have an opinion? Then how can the UN approve journalists who are paid propagandists for authoritarian regimes, like China’s Xinhua and CCTV, Qatar’s Al Jazeera and Russia’s RT
Canada’s largest newspaper, the Toronto Star, has an advocacy mission hard-wired into their news room, called the Atkinson Principles. And the Star is accredited for Marrakech.
The UN ignored a letter from our lawyer. I reached out to three left-leaning Canadian journalist groups and they all wrote letters of support. They were ignored, too.
Would Trudeau and Catherine McKenna, the environment minister, demand that the UN end its censorship. It’s pure speculation, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was someone from the office of Trudeau, McKenna or Rachel Notley who requested the UN ban us.
I’m curious how the UN singled us out:
A new, small online news outlet, amongst all the thousands of accreditation requests from around the world...
Please sign our petition at LetUsReport.com, to pressure the UN into reconsidering.
(You can see the UN’s one-line reply to us, our lawyer’s letters and the NGO letters there, too.)
We’re going to send our journalists to Marrakech no matter what. Even if we have to stand outside and shout questions at the elites as they arrive in their fossil-fuel-burning limousines.
PS: Flying to Marrakech, Morocco is an expensive project for us: The flights alone were more than a thousand dollars each. If you want to chip in to help us crowd fund that, you can do so right there on LetUsReport.com too.
NEXT: Friend of show Marc Morano of ClimateDepot.com knows all about the UN's climate censorship, and how these conferences operate.
Watch as he gives us the inside story.
Candice also talks about her new Canadian think tank, the True North Initiative. It is "an independent, non-profit research and educational organization dedicated to advancing sound immigration and security policies."
FINALLY: Your messages to me!
