#CPC18 SPECIAL: Scheer vs. Bernier, the Media Party's Rebel obsession & looking ahead to 2019

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

The Conservative Party banned The Rebel from their convention in Halifax, but of course, we're here anyway!

The big story, of course, is Maxime Bernier's resignation from the party, reportedly to start his own.

Tonight I'll explain why I think this was a bad decision, not just for the Conservatives, but for the country — especially with a federal election looming next year.

But there was another big story, at least according to the Media Party — that's right, it was about us!

Believe it or not, today the Globe & Mail reported on this earthshaking scandal:

That Hamish Marshall (who helped me start The Rebel Media in 2015, and now works for Andrew Scheer) said hello to Sheila Gunn Reid! Twice!

I'm not joking. The Globe & Mail is Canada's national newspaper of record, and they called this a "top story."

As funny and ridiculous as this "story" is, it indicates a serious problem — and not just with the Media Party's bias and weird priorities.

The Conservatives themselves are indulging in some bizarre "spin" too: I'll tell you what they said about The Rebel after this "news" went viral, and it doesn't give me much confidence in the party's ability to fight to win.

If they think they have to go into damage control after casually greeting former conservative colleagues in public, do you really think they have what it takes to go up against Trudeau and the Liberals?

Except Andrew Scheer’s worst enemy in the 2019 election will not be Justin Trudeau, possibly the laziest man in Canadian politics, whose schtick — the dancing, the selfies, the costumes – is wearing thin on Canadians.

Justin Trudeau is not Scheer’s opponent.

The Media Party is...

NEXT: Sheila Gunn Reid is with me here in Halifax, and we've got her interviews with two convention delegates and grassroots conservatives, Clinton P. Desveaux and Prem Singh. They discuss the divide that sometimes exists between ordinary members and the party establishment.

We'll have more coverage of the convention to come over the weekend.

Normally, this show is behind our paywall. If you like what you've seen tonight, and want to join our thousands of Premium Members so you can watch every episode, please SIGN UP! We have a great lineup of shows from me, Sheila and more that bring you, as always, the other side of the story!

Yes Flatwater, immigration to serve the needs of the nation not a nation here to serve immigration. We’re not a doormat for the third world. And next time an apologist or extremist person from a particular theocracy tells you Canada has an obligation because of the damage Christians have done to their people, ask them how many times Islam has invaded and replaced Christians over the centuries. The truth about the Crusades proves that the Christian nations were not the aggressors, only the defenders. Remind them that Christianity originated in the middle East, and is now all but eradicated thanks to Islam. So excuse the west for not wanting a repeat of what happened to Constantinople.

Clearly I don’t know that much about it, but I want to know the truth about some of these things we are told we must do, so I can know when these feckless politicians are lying to me.The UN can punish a country with fines, embargo’s or sanctions, shame them etc. but if a sovereign country pushes back they really can’t make them open their borders. Hungary still isn’t and won’t.

You would think a sovereign country would have some say . Its not like these agreements are for life, they must come up for ‘renewal
or something. I don’t think ‘we’ signed up for 400,000 migrants per year, that’s just what Hussen wants to do to us. I’m sure he would make it more and probably will if he isn’t countered. He wants to make the open border crossings a permanent ‘solution’. Hussen is Insane.

Liza.. As well we need to sign away from our contract that Pierre Elliott Trudeau signed us onto with the UN to accept as many immigrants as they told us to .. we need to go back to the old way of excepting immigrants and that’s as we needed them for shortages of skilled and professional things.!!
The only talent that most of them have is the ability to vote Liberal and that doesn’t work for me.. no more free stuff.!!

The UN is trying to force all sorts of countries to take more migrants. Many like Hungary are flatly saying NO putting up fences and manning them. We have to gain control of the situation in Canada, enforce our laws and secure our borders. Ahmed Hussen calls that racist. I call his comment ignorant and unacceptable. They are really going to be stepping up the ‘quelling’ and shaming and name calling. Its been going on so long it just rolls off now. Screw em. Subjugation is death.

Canada is a party to the United Nations 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol. Its refugee system is regulated mainly by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,
which implements the Convention. The refugee resettlement program is administered by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), which manages both the processing of applications and resettlement assistance.

Thanks Hyacinth, I’ll check them out.

Keith we are told that, but we are a sovereign country and are under no binding obligation to be told who or how may we let in. They just tell us we must. There are ways to get out of it and we could if we pushed back on it. Like the Paris accord, they tell us we signed on, but it is not legally binding. China signed it too, and they are not about to abide by it.

“I still do not know what Scheer’s immigration policy is.”

Didn’t find anything in a quick search regarding Sheer’s Canadian immigration policy only on his take on US immigration, and it was actually a CBC report (linked).

Liza, dose not the UN control the number of migrants entering Canada? I seem to remember Harper getting into trouble with them for trying to reduce the number that Canada would accept.

Arguing logic or Truth with a troll is like wrestling with a pig.. At the end of the day you figure it out that you both smell like shit but the pig likes it ..!!

I think we are in a very unique and dire situation in this country, and a conservative party not much different from the liberal party is not going to do anything to help us. Bernier in one of his interviews with ctv I think, said we must cut our immigration numbers back to 200-250,000, not increase them from the current 350,000 to 400,000 like Hussen wants to do, not to mention the liberals plan to make the border crosser situation permanent!. I still do not know what Scheer’s immigration policy is. Michelle Rempel is working hard trying to get answers from Hussen, Goodale, Blair, but what will they do if they were to get in?

Hyacinth I think it was Robert Greeley who first posted the FVP link, and I agree it is a good one.

So why didn’t all of you just vote for Kellie Leitch as your number one? She spoke your Rebel style conservative language and had a problem with immigrant brown people.
…………………………………..
Sonny, wake up and smell the roses. You too have a problem with immigrant brown people.

You may be strange but your throat is just the same as ours.

Peter Netterville posted many hours ago: " Bernier will not be ready in a year."

Peter, you may come up right, however you must see who Ford was and what he did in less than 3 months.

Being a City or Town Councilor is without doubt THE LOWEST POLITICAL JOB IN CANADA. In that short time Ford elevated himself up one level to Provincial Politics, running the largest Province in the Country. He had to even learn the Provincial system before he could do anything.

Bernier on the other hand has been through the mill for 16 years, being Minister of State under Harper, he dealt with the US , and many other important Countries in the world.
It is not like he is just starting out.
The next two weeks should give us a clue where we should put our bets.
