Why the Conservative Party convention was “a gong show”

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

I’m back from the Conservative Party of Canada’s convention in lovely Halifax. I was there with Sheila Gunn Reid, our Alberta bureau chief, and two of our staff, Eitan and Efron.

We covered a lot of ground. And we had a meet and greet for Rebel supporters, and hundreds of people came out. It was so jam-packed, the hotel was afraid we'd violate the fire code.

But the convention itself — well, that’s a different matter...

As you know, on the eve of the convention, Maxime Bernier quit the Conservatives, and said he was contemplating setting up his own party.

Had Bernier simply delayed his exit by a few days, it would have helped him — he could have pointed to the gong show of the convention as proof that he had to leave it.

I call it a gong show for a few reasons.

First: Andrew Scheer has made protecting Quebec’s dairy cartel his signature issue. The dairy cartel literally had 25 lobbyists in attendance. I can’t imagine that any other group had more than one or two.

We know this because a huge dairy lobbyist binder was left on the table of a restaurant, and it was found by a regular party member, who made the contents public. And these documents make it clear that the whole thing was a stitch up from the start. We spoke to many delegates who thought they actually had a chance to shape the party’s direction; they were infuriated by these rigged rules in the dairy cartel's favour, by the way supply management was intentionally placed at the very end of the agenda, making a real debate on the issue impossible.

And of course, Andrew Scheer banned The Rebel from the conference. Even some of his staffers opposed this, and told Scheer this to his face. It didn't make any difference.

I’m absolutely certain that the only real reason why Scheer banned The Rebel is because the other media bullied him into doing it. That’s not just a theory, either, as I'll explain tonight.

Anyway, as promised, I delivered our petition of 10,000 party members demanding that we be allowed in to the convention — but Scheer had a six-member security team watching us the whole time. When we walked to the door, they sent someone to block us, but not even a Conservative staffer. Instead, they sent out... a student intern from the convention centre. Again, so weird.

Look, Justin Trudeau needs to be replaced. The only party that can replace him is the Conservatives. (Maxime Bernier doesn’t yet have a new party, and it won’t win.

Perhaps Scheer thinks that means any conservative in the country is trapped, and must support him.

That’s what Patrick Brown thought, too...

I will make a prediction and it’s an unhappy one:

Unless Andrew Scheer finds some courage somewhere, and realizes that his true enemy is the liberal media, he will lose the next election.

And the Conservative Party will be much more divided, much smaller and much weaker than the one he inherited from Harper.

NEXT: Our Alberta Bureau Chief, Sheila Gunn Reid, comes on to talk more about the Conservative convention, and the issue of birthright citizenship, which is now under scrutiny after a leaked Liberal memo.

THEN: One of our favourite guests and experts, Manny Montenegrino, joins me to talk about Trump's trade deal with Mexico, and what Trudeau's Liberals are doing while this important deal is taking place.

FINALLY: Your messages to me!

How can we in Canada expect to ever have self-defence laws when nobody will even defend the unborn.!!

To remind “it” of that along with it’s fake PhD while not speaking directly to “it”..

Personally I think Faith Goldie would make a hell of a mayor in Toronto. She is outspoken well spoken and patriotic…

She is either hanging with the wrong crowd or she believes in Canada that we should abort our babies and encourage the migration, the mass migration of hostile’s to make up the vacuum that was created by the deaths of all the unborn.

Hmmmm

Ron… On another thread I found and quoted him ( Cut and paste with a timestamp ) where he said he would match you dollar for dollar and his response was that I shouldn’t worry about it and then for the rest of forever there was no response at all.. I will stick that to him as if it was a tack in his forehead.. He will never ever ever own up to what he ran his mouth off with and the worst part is he’s OK with it…

Liza R , I agree she’s a great person and very intelligent she’s just hanging with the wrong crowd .

Its not like Michelle isn’t trying, but it still all points to fast tracking people into the country. God knows its some push back, but it isn’t enough and it won’t save us from the havoc other countries, we seem to refuse to learn from, are experiencing. Its hard to undo the migrant complications. If we were smart we would be doing much more to prevent them.. I listened to every word. Bless Michelle, she is trying to do her best with what she is given to work with. However…this, ‘we need immigrants to keep the country running’ is a premise I will never accept. How many newcomers do we need Michelle, ‘to the needs of Canada’s economy?’ I just don’t buy it. Foreign workers? Please.

The whole system is so screwed. Give welfare to lazy ass citizens and bring in people to work the jobs. See anything backwards about this ?
Too much immigration, too much immigration. we sure as heck don’t need any more immigration to “maintain our pluralism”? All of this is so wrong. Never mind that we are bringing it in from cultures that will NEVER assimilate, and don’t particularly even like us, have agenda and are as far from compatible with our values as you can get. This is madness and suicide for any western country. Bringing in the world’s needy, is a fools game. There are more where they came from………to infinity.

If the conservatives as well as disappointed liberals wish to see, and God I hate to use the word “change” because Rachel Notley ran her platform on nothing but the word change and Justin as well as Kathleen Wynne win used that word quite a bit so the value of it (the word “change”) may have been lost through massive disappointment.! But if we wish to see a difference and the kind of difference that will set this country, this sovereign nation back on the path leading to the road that will bring us once again to fiscal responsibility as well as defined borders, common sense laws for legitimate and legal firearm owners, responsible immigrant intake, lower taxes, repealed transfer payments from the west, the ending of a stranglehold on milk and dairy products, responsible negotiating with our largest and friendliest trading partner for mutually beneficial cross-border trade as well as a host of so many other things on his platform that have been clearly laid out what Mr. Bernier would like to do if we the people give him the authority to do it… So why the hell are we fighting amongst ourselves for a liberal light monkey that’s got his own back and belly as his best interest group.!! For the maximum effect vote Bernier in 2019 federal election..!!
commented 2018-08-28 01:55:14 -0400
Jimmy Reece it is necessary though, and Scheer is not a conservative. If he wins it will mean a Liberal government next election when they outliberal him. 4 more years of Justin would open the door for Bernier and a party with more TRUE Conservatives. The pain will have to be endured to make things better.
commented 2018-08-28 01:52:16 -0400
Jonathan Bryant i see no proof of that and Trump offered to end all tariffs if Justin did the same. Justin will not budge and the dairy cartel is hardly protectionist , it makes milk more expensive for Canadians.

Once again my I reiterate… Please do not feed or speak directly to the trolls… Please refer to “it” in a third-party context only. We all thank each other for our cooperation in advance… LOL

Liza R , Did you see her face the day Maximus quit ? It looked like a death in the family look or we just lost an election look ! Either way it was hard to watch . She must have felt something that was the beginning of the Maximum Effect !

“Liza Rosie , I tried to watch that link you posted…”

Ron tips for watching political and or incredibly boring videos:
First brew a strong cup of coffee then watch the video. The majority of politicians hope they put you to sleep so you don’t catch everything they said or intentionally avoided saying. Watch them closely too, body language speaks volumes as does their voice quality (speaks too fast or stutters or talks in circles).

Hyacinth , I think leaving the way he did was what anybody would have done in that in position and stating that he couldn’t stand the the morally and intellectually challenged party was a good statement . Imagine that calling a spade a spade . Priceless !!! LMAO

“It is definitely going to be entertaining to see what happens in this war among conservatives.”

Tad over the top description don’t you think? Are you hoping to see violence like Chretien doing a choke hold on a protestor? Or Trudeau rushing towards an MP elbowing a female MP in the chest? Or Trudeau rushing at an older women screaming “racist”? Don’t hold your breath, conservatives are not the violent ones.
