Why the Conservative Party convention was “a gong show”

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

I’m back from the Conservative Party of Canada’s convention in lovely Halifax. I was there with Sheila Gunn Reid, our Alberta bureau chief, and two of our staff, Eitan and Efron.

We covered a lot of ground. And we had a meet and greet for Rebel supporters, and hundreds of people came out. It was so jam-packed, the hotel was afraid we'd violate the fire code.

But the convention itself — well, that’s a different matter...

As you know, on the eve of the convention, Maxime Bernier quit the Conservatives, and said he was contemplating setting up his own party.

Had Bernier simply delayed his exit by a few days, it would have helped him — he could have pointed to the gong show of the convention as proof that he had to leave it.

I call it a gong show for a few reasons.

First: Andrew Scheer has made protecting Quebec’s dairy cartel his signature issue. The dairy cartel literally had 25 lobbyists in attendance. I can’t imagine that any other group had more than one or two.

We know this because a huge dairy lobbyist binder was left on the table of a restaurant, and it was found by a regular party member, who made the contents public. And these documents make it clear that the whole thing was a stitch up from the start. We spoke to many delegates who thought they actually had a chance to shape the party’s direction; they were infuriated by these rigged rules in the dairy cartel's favour, by the way supply management was intentionally placed at the very end of the agenda, making a real debate on the issue impossible.

And of course, Andrew Scheer banned The Rebel from the conference. Even some of his staffers opposed this, and told Scheer this to his face. It didn't make any difference.

I’m absolutely certain that the only real reason why Scheer banned The Rebel is because the other media bullied him into doing it. That’s not just a theory, either, as I'll explain tonight.

Anyway, as promised, I delivered our petition of 10,000 party members demanding that we be allowed in to the convention — but Scheer had a six-member security team watching us the whole time. When we walked to the door, they sent someone to block us, but not even a Conservative staffer. Instead, they sent out... a student intern from the convention centre. Again, so weird.

Look, Justin Trudeau needs to be replaced. The only party that can replace him is the Conservatives. (Maxime Bernier doesn’t yet have a new party, and it won’t win.

Perhaps Scheer thinks that means any conservative in the country is trapped, and must support him.

That’s what Patrick Brown thought, too...

I will make a prediction and it’s an unhappy one:

Unless Andrew Scheer finds some courage somewhere, and realizes that his true enemy is the liberal media, he will lose the next election.

And the Conservative Party will be much more divided, much smaller and much weaker than the one he inherited from Harper.

NEXT: Our Alberta Bureau Chief, Sheila Gunn Reid, comes on to talk more about the Conservative convention, and the issue of birthright citizenship, which is now under scrutiny after a leaked Liberal memo.

THEN: One of our favourite guests and experts, Manny Montenegrino, joins me to talk about Trump's trade deal with Mexico, and what Trudeau's Liberals are doing while this important deal is taking place.

FINALLY: Your messages to me!

Tammie said in part, "Scheer is compromised, and, is looking more authoritarian each week…don’t let his inappropriate grinning fool you, he is following orders. "

I wish it weren’t true, but the cpc has lost my trust. Even Michelle Rempel. who I follow to try to find out what is going on in the party. Loyalty at any cost is a detriment to the truth. I just can’t do it anymore. Scheer would not be any kind of win. I can’t trust them to do what they say or even say it in the first place.

“And personally I think it was genius the way he served his resignation… If he would’ve went to the convention they would’ve fired him but he got a chance to leave on his own terms and he took it… Smart man .! "

Exactly.

It’s not only the liberal media which will make sure of conservative defeat. Andrew Scheer is his own worst enemy, or rather his liberal-lite, globalist, anti-canadian policies are the main reason no true conservative will ever vote for him.
Voting for him would be (assuming he wins) nothing more than replacing Trudeau with Scheer with absolutely NO change in any policy, viz. environment, immigration, law & order, international business/trading. Not much there for law-abiding, legal gun owners either.
Current conservative policy lacks substance, it echos as lighter version of liberal policies, even if there are some which may sound different from liberals there’s no guarantee that Conservatives under Scheer would make it their govt. policy.
Watch for yourself what Michelle Rempel has to say about conservative immigration policy. No plans to cut down immigration or TFW, Foreign students, they think the current immigration numbers are sustainable (they may even further increase annual immigration) all they’re talking about is to streamline illegal immigrants/border jumpers:

Iain Foulds commented “… If you don’t let this go for now, you and Rebel are just working for Trudeau… another five years of Trudeau.”

Liberal Lite? That seems their tactics as of late – if you don’t vote for/stand behind Sheer then that means you’re a cheerleader for Trudeau, the world will come to a crashing halt and its all your fault ya da ya da. That IS a form of emotional blackmail which in essence makes you no better than the Leftards that automatically call you a racist or whatever because you don’t agree with them.

Iain Foulds commented “… PS. Unblock me on Twitter. What are you thinking.”

Crossed over the line one too many times eh? LOL

Crock[ett]/Stark/Ocean et al. you tipped your hand far too quickly this time troll.

Andy Neimers commented
“What Bill Maciura… So “the Media Party” sets the agenda of what Rebel posters are supposed to comment on, or not???”

Apparently the troll along with the party members that are Liberal Lite, and CBC and the leftwing MSM, set the agenda: Tu, was dir gesagt wurde, kein Denken erlaubt (Do what you have been told, no thinking allowed). My answer to that is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pRnQYS0S5c

On the Fox News Ingram Report, the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs THREW Canada under the bus, saying, " if Canada does not want to come in the deal with the US and Mexico, we will move on."

Trudeau and his NAFTA crew look like complete fools.
If that wasn’t enough, Larry Kudlow went on about Trudeau BACK-STABBING Trump at the G-7 meeting. Laura was going to say something about Freeland’s

I just answered my latest fundraising request from the CP. I told them I spent all my extra money on a Rebel subscription and suggested they could get their buddies at the cbc to kick in a few bucks.

I don’t think the Rebel aspires to ‘play the media’. Not sure what you mean Bill. Would you care to extrapolate? Your comments are barely coherent, and this last comment of yours is exactly why the Rebel gives it airtime, because no one else covers it.
Man it must really suck to be you. They don’t make pain killers for what must be going on in your head. Good luck.

Andrew Scheer is suffering from the Sally Fields’ Syndrome…he’s hoping the CBC will ‘really, really like him’.
Wait til the vicious Rosemary Barton gets a hold of him in the election, she’s go for the throat to kill.
Very disappointed in Maxime doing this now.

Johnathan Bryant, quote:- “As far as the dairy is concerned, why should we be willing to scrap supply management when the US protects their dairy as well, even more so.”

Johnathan, the US subsidizing Milk and cheese for the US children is completely the opposite of what Scheer and Trudeau are doing to Canadian kids. In Canada’s case the Gov’t is keeping the price up for its citizens and the Rich Farming cartels get the money. The US is keeping the price down.

We can get into the Supply Management Gravy Train. " To get in, farmers must buy quota, which gives them the right to produce a set amount of milk and sell it at fixed prices. Membership doesn’t come cheap. Quota for a single cow ranges from $25,000 in Ontario and Quebec to $42,500 in B.C. Setting up a typical 70-cow farm would cost more than $3-million, plus land. "

The average Dairy Farmer is a Millionaire, some many times that, and it’s all our money, the reason that we pay double for milk, cheese and related products.

I like Maximum Berniers plan to bring equalization back into the spotlight because I think that is a major issue and no other federal position would ever start that debate and Maxime is going to be opening a lot of very important debates on key issues facing the lives of Canadians so there’s that and that’s a hell of a lot more than the clown and his smiling sidekick Howdy Doody .

… Ezra: You are upset at Scheer for not allowing Rebel at the convention. Understandable. Also upset about the insult and injustice of Soviet marketing policies. Understandable.
… But, you have to let this go… for the next twelve months.
… After that we can get a true conservative leader in there, and work to reform the policies from within.
… If you don’t let this go for now, you and Rebel are just working for Trudeau… another five years of Trudeau.
… PS. Unblock me on Twitter. What are you thinking.

Trudeau is deliberately killing NAFTA, and trying to blame it on Trump. And Scheer is backing him with his stance on SM. I think Ezra needs to put out some tee shirts with “Trudeau is a Traitor” on the front, and “So is Andrew Scheer” on the back, and donate some of the funds to Maxime’s new party.
commented 2018-08-27 22:30:02 -0400
I think Trudeau is just stubborn enough to not give in on anything in NAFTA. After all he doesnt care about us and that is plain to see.Heaven help Ontario and Quebec auto workers
