Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says provinces who don't get on board with her climate change plan will forfeit their share of the $2 billion Federal Low Carbon Economy Fund.
“Would also be good if the federal conservatives had a plan to tackle climate change. Like the Harper government they fail to understand the real cost of climate change to Canadians- from extreme heat to fires to flooding- and the 30 trillion opportunity of climate change”
That figure — $30 trillion — is around 15 times the size of the entire Canadian economy.
How much scrutiny do you think McKenna got from the mainstream media over this gaffe? Next to none, of course. They never have:
Back in April 2016, McKenna told the World Bank group carbon pricing leadership coalition that climate change was "a $3 trillion opportunity."
Two years later, in an April 2018 press release from her very own Ministry, she said that climate change would "open up nearly $23 trillion in opportunity."
But last month, she told cbc's "As It Happens" that it was only "a $1 trillion opportunity."
McKenna's just making things up. The UN could sell her a bag of magic beans and when they didn't grow, she’d blame climate change.
But Canadians are smart enough to realize that they save money by not giving the government their money in the form of a carbon tax, regardless of what McKenna says.
Don't you dare criticize her about this, or anything else though. She's got a rule about that, as I'll show you tonight...
