Environmentalism is a step backwards in terms of civilization and culture. Isn't part of social progress that we spend less time — and less mental energy — dealing with gross things, like garbage?
Which brings us to the news of the day:
Calgary has 5,000 tonnes of recyclables and no one to take them
They used to ship it to China. (How on earth did that make sense, environmentally or economically?)
But now China is banning it. (As if they were really "recycling" it when it got there...)
So we’re still going through all the make-believe, all recycling bins and extra garbage trucks — and it’s just going to the dump with the regular trash?
Of course we are — because it was never about saving the earth. It was about looking cool — and about whoever got the contract for those extra garbage trucks, and the six-figure government jobs driving them.
And it's not just a problem in Calgary, either...
WATCH to find out if your city is in the same predicament.
(Tonight I'll also explain why the only item that actually makes sense to recycle is metal.)
So next time you see one of those four- or five-compartment bins?
Just throw your trash in whichever one.
It’s all going to the same place...
