Doug Ford to lead Ontario Conservatives — Why that's important, no matter where you live

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

In seven weeks, the PC Party of Ontario has been transformed:

From supporting a carbon tax to railing against it. From supporting wind turbines to threatening to rip them out of the ground. From bending the knee and submitting to the mainstream media’s idea of what an acceptable conservative is — to bashing the media and ignoring them, Trump-style.

From Patrick Brown to Doug Ford.

I can’t believe it. And I’m so hopeful, for a bunch of reasons that I’ll tell you

It was a hectic leadership contest. Patrick Brown was the leader just seven weeks ago — and then a CTV attack on his alleged sexual misconduct — some allegations of which have been recanted; and Brown says he’s going to sue them — Brown was leader less than two months ago, with a boring, soft-left, Red Tory platform, including a carbon tax.

What’s the point in having a Conservative Party that is indistinguishable from the Liberal Party on all core ideas?

Sure, Kathleen Wynne is corrupt and has ruined the economy. But that was true before. Running another focus-grouped, artificial candidate against her, and her Big Labour war machine, doesn’t work.

Well, that’s gone now. And I think Doug Ford's got a real chance to be premier, too.

The media is hostile — of course, but I don’t think that works as well as it used to.

So are other groups. I'll show you an outrageous attack ad, published by... the Canadian Civil Liberties Association! An allegedly non-partisan charity, and they're campaigning against Ford.

But that’s a good sign — the degree with which Ford’s enemies hate him shows the degree to which they think he is a real force for change.

NEXT: Our own David Menzies comes on to talk about being barred from covering the leadership election on Saturday — and who was behind that decision!

THEN: Toronto Sun columnist Anthony Furey and I look to the future: Does Doug Ford really have a chance of beating Wynne in the upcoming election?

FINALLY: Your messages to me!

Well it means she got the most votes. You know how math works right, regardless of electoral voting. Essentially she lost due to a technicality in the voting process, which some support and some don’t.

You talk as if Doug Ford decimated Elliott. You know all the crying you were doing about voters who were unable to vote. It’s possible that if there wasn’t a voting problem, Elliott would have won – it goes both ways, but you don’t care, because your guy won. You would only make a fuss about all the old people who couldn’t vote because they don’t have a computer, if Doug Ford lost.

Doug Ford won, Elliot finally had to concede. Popular vote doesn’t matter does it?!!
The establishment was turned on it’s head, now the folks who said he wouldn’t win, are left to eat crow.

Didn’t Doug win 20 ridings, and John Tory 21? To me, that looks like there were plenty of Torontonians who were not “absolutely embarrassed” and voted for Doug.

Deborah Graupner,

Do you live in Toronto? Because I assure you that Torontonians were absolutely embarrassed by the Ford Brothers, which is why Tory is mayor and Doug didn’t win.

Kelvin, they are probably staked out behind Doug’s backyard fence hoping to get the goods on him, just like they did to Rob.

Bob.. you’re really are so delusional that you cannot tell out right a win from a loss… The left said the same thing about Hillary and President Trump.!!
But at the end of the day Trump is president and Hillary is not… Mr. Ford will more than likely be the next Premier .

From 2015 to present date Mainstream Media suffering Trump Derangement Syndrome. Now CTV…Global….CBC suffering Ford Derangement Syndrome. Episode 2….msm Dumb and Dumber courtesy your local cable provider.

The trump card is Toronto, and no matter what the MSM say about Doug, working class Torontonians loved his brother Rob, warts and all. So I think that he has paved the way for his brother to win as Premier of ON. John Tory has done nothing but cost people money, as has that corrupt Wynne bag, who needs to be thrown in jail for what she’s done to ON.

Ron Voss,

They couldn’t ignore opposing opinions if their life depended on it.

Yes, it wasn’t look good for Ford and he barely won the election. Elliot won the popular vote.

LOL.

You proved my point for me.

Muta Ween said in part, “If we are going to save Canada it has to start in June with a decisive victory for Ford.”
Yes, I agree, it starts with Ontario.
commented 2018-03-12 22:04:26 -0400
The upcoming election isn’t just about or for Ontario. Rejecting Wynne and her corrupt Liberal Party will be a rejection of the Federal Trudeau Liberals who are supplanting our culture and destroying our economy.
The same situation will be evident in Alberta. Notley and her socialist government needs to be obliterated.
If we are going to save Canada it has to start in June with a decisive victory for Ford.

I wish people would stop feeding the “useful idiot” troll. Just fills up space, which I skip over.

Very interesting during Ezra’s conversation with David that the elite establishment in the party, protecting their self-interest, actually didn’t care about what’s best for the party and the province and that the party may now be successful with their’help’ out of the way.

Tammie,

Oh ya?
Bob Rock commented 4 days ago

Yes, we know that you will whine along with Ford IF Christine Elliott becomes leader.

Bob Rock commented 4 days ago

I agree – Doug Ford will be making a fuss one way or another IF Christine is leader. There is no way that he takes the defeat like a man IF it goes that way.

Clearly I am acknowledging that he could win.

Proved you wrong yet again.

I can’t believe people actually pay money to become a member of a political party. I wouldn’t give one cent of my hard earned money to a politician. F*ck that shit, they steal enough of my money.

Bravo Zulu, exactly!

Time for Doug to kick some entitled lieberal arse.

PAUL MCCULLOUGH, good analysis.
Another example of the media quickly taking their knives out for Doug Ford, this opinion piece, “Ottawa Citizen, Denley: Doug Ford drags the Ontario PCs further into the abyss”
http://ottawacitizen.com/opinion/columnists/denley-doug-ford-drags-the-ontario-pcs-further-into-the-abyss
For example, school-yard name-calling, calling Ford “stupid” and a “nitwit”: “Having analyzed their last four electoral defeats, PC members must have concluded that the problem was that they didn’t have a leader who was stupid enough. Enter Doug Ford, the perfect solution…Why choose a rational person with real qualifications when a world-class nitwit like Ford was available?”
And, “Ford takes the party away from the centre, where most voters are, and back to the right, where the PCs lost the last election. Just to make the Liberals’ job a little easier”. As everybody knows the Citizen is a left-leaning paper, so they should be happy that Ford won if it truly means it will make the Liberal’s job a little easier. Naw. My rule of thumb for conservatives with respect to these left-leaning papers who are giving you advice, ignore them and do just the opposite.

Tom Bradly,

Well we are talking about Doug Ford here – fucking up and saying stupid shit is his specialty. He barely won the PC vote and lost the popular vote. Doug Ford may beat Wynne, but I wouldn’t bet money on that if I was you.

Bob/Vinny of course I’m a member.
Boy, you have a short memory…..you insisted on several threads Elliott would win. Similar attitude when you insisted HRC would be sitting in the White House.
Your prophecy skills are non-existent.

Sean Penson isn’t one of my names. There are more liberals here than just me.
commented 2018-03-12 21:35:11 -0400
Deborah, I really like Tanya as well. She will be a definite asset. She garnered a lot of support in the short amount of time leading up to the leadership race.
Every time I got mail from the Mulroney camp (electronic and via Canada Post) I tossed it. I didn’t include her on my ballot.
commented 2018-03-12 21:34:16 -0400
Tammie,

Butthurt about what? A party I don’t care about and I haven’t paid to be a member of? Are you a paid member?
commented 2018-03-12 21:33:03 -0400
All of this Ford excitement is getting to little Bobby. Ford definitely has taken up residence in Bobby’s little mind. Wonder if he will have another melt down as he did when he was using the moniker Sean Penson.

- At the beginning of this year I had no hope for the upcoming Ontario election. The PCs, Liberals & NDP were all dancing to the beat of the same drum. Liberal-Lite, Liberal, or Liberal extra. What happened to Patrick Brow was disgraceful but his exit as the PC leader gave us hope. With Ford as the new leader there’s hope for real change now, not in some election many years from now. Tanya Granic Allen would make a great education minister. I would never have voted for a PC party led by Caroline Mulroney & it looks like few others would have either. I’ve seen the smears against Doug Ford starting up. Doug has a very powerful piece of advertising that shows up, courtesy of the Liberals themselves, regularly in millions of peoples homes in Ontario – their electricity bills.

- Brian Mulroney was a tax & spend Liberal in PC party clothing. It looks like Caroline Mulroney is a chip off the old block(head) that’s one generation further removed from the little people. When a conservative party bans a conservative news organization you know something stinks in the party. Doug has his work cut out for him & not a lot of time to do it. Smear campaigns is all the Liberals have to work with, given their record. Smear campaigns are not as effective against people who fight back as they are against those who don’t.

- Rob Ford took on the unions & won, so they put his personal life under a microscope. They were mocking him for coming out of a KFC, sent a washed up CBC comedian out to his house to harass his family & on & on & on. That won’t work with Doug Ford. Ontario voters have been waiting for someone to vote for. Doug has given them that chance.

At this point my dog 🐶 could run against Wynne and win. The only way the Conservatives lose is if they f*ck it up like like Tim the Dim did last election.

Robert, I’m still laughing!

Caroline Mulroney was not comfortable at all speaking to the press. She came across as being very nervous and unsure of herself. I guess she thought that nobody would dare ask her questions about her dad, or her privileged life.
I really liked Tanya. She was spunky and spoke her mind. She will be good for Doug Ford.
