FACT-CHECK: Young people DO want to become teachers — but union won’t let them

David MenziesMission Specialist

According to a recent StarMetro Halifax story, an overworked teacher and a grief-filled Teachers’ Union boss are bemoaning the fact that students don’t want to become teachers any more, yet the stats in the story itself would suggest otherwise.

Spokespersons from Mount Saint Vincent University and Acadia University both state that enrolment has been on the rise for the past five years, with Acadia reaching capacity for the past two, so what’s going on?

When the union boss says students don’t want to be teachers anymore, maybe he needs to look in the mirror because unlike in the private sector where individuals succeed based on merit, public sector teachers’ unions are closed shops where entry and advancement depend on seniority only.

I clearly saw which way “the wind was blowing” already back around 1986 when the teachers at Bowen Island Elementary decided – the school which both of my boys were attending at the time- that there would be NO traditional Christmas carols sung at the so-called annual Christmas pageant…

Public service unions are more about building little leftist fiefdoms than caring about teachers or students.

When the Nova Scotia Department of Education saw fit to move all teacher education to Mount Saint Vincent University (my alma mater)…I saw fit to burn my degree as an act of protest on Valentine’s Day. I was barred from the campus under the protection of property act…though the property was never in danger…only the reputation of that institution.

All I can say now is ……I told you so.

I was an educational assistant for a few years and did some substitute teaching. I love teaching but I quickly came to realize i wouldn’t last 6 months in the public system. Teaching is the most politicized profession on earth next to being a Soviet Commissar.

Our son had a teacher at one point that was so bad it was unbelievable. When we complained to the school board about how bad she was we were told “we know but there’s nothing we can do”. Seriously! I was dumbfounded.

They’re taking this position to warrant hiring transgender men and women, gay and lesbian men and women, along with the standard Marxist feminists. Therefore, no one else wants the job.

You cannot be a Teacher in Canada unless you have studied and agree with the works of Carl Marx and agree to brainwash your students with his stupidity.

Unions are Marxist propaganda factories. Merit is a foreign concept to them.
