The response from the Media Party was pretty bad too, but by far the worst media analysis post-hijab hoax came in Bernie Farber’s logic-defying column in Now Magazine.
The inanity begins with a headline that puts the word “hoax” in quotation marks, and continues from there.
For one thing, Bernie’s miffed by how the perpetrators of the hoax are being treated. He also spreads fake news when he misstates that “Islamophobia” is up “600 per cent’ in the last year.
As former executive director of the Mosaic Institute, Farber diligently fought against Holocaust denial, which is good, but in this case, he’s choosing to hang on to a shred of a chance that the hijab-shredding incident is real, even though police and the family say it was a hoax.
By going to bat for the hoaxers, Farber yet again proves that he doesn’t understand hoaxes like this do a disservice to the real victims of hate crimes.
