Venezuela, which possesses the world's largest oil reserves, used to be the wealthiest nation in Latin America. In 1998 Hugo Chavez was elected President of Venezuela and began implementing a socialist agenda funded by profits from oil exports.
Chavez died in 2013, and his successor Nicolas Maduro continued these policies until the price of oil fell and rendered the Marxist program unsustainable.
Now inflation is skyrocketing and Venezuelans have been reduced to eating pets, rodents, and garbage. Yet the Hollywood celebrities and leftist politicians, who had praised Chavez, are silent.
